Graduation is almost here 🎓✨

For our seniors, this marks an important accomplishment. And while their names will be called at the graduation stage, this milestone belongs to a whole village. To the families, friends, mentors, and communities who poured loved, guidance, and belief into them—this achievement is yours, too! None of this happens alone.

Here’s to the journeys that brought them here and the villages that made it possible. 💫

This year, the First Gen Fellowship at St. John’s University became more than a program—it became a space for first-gen students to be seen, heard, and supported.
Over 8 months, we unpacked the realities of being “First and Onlys,” inspired by Alejandra Campoverdi’s First Gen: A Memoir—from invisible responsibilities and the bicultural balancing act to the lonely hustle and breakaway guilt.

But more importantly, we built something together.

A space rooted in trust, vulnerability, and belonging.

A space where students could say: I’m not alone in this.

Through shared stories, reflection, and community, our students were reminded that being first gen isn’t a deficit—it’s a source of strength, discernment, and legacy.

This work is never about a single moment. It’s about showing up—consistently—to walk alongside students as they navigate both the opportunities and the emotional complexities of being first.

This is just the beginning. 💫
