Exciting news for TV and culture enthusiasts!
"It Takes Ah Village," a new TV show brainchild of DebbieAnn Seemungal and Alisha Persaud, is setting the stage to bring the rich Indo-Caribbean-American culture into our living rooms. This show is more than entertainment; it's a mission to spotlight the journey of new parents through a blend of drama and comedy, aiming to break stigmas around mental health and foster a culture of support and empowerment. Funds raised will be directed towards the production of the first two episodes, including location rentals, actor payments, and crew costs.

Every contribution brings "It Takes Ah Village" closer to becoming a reality. Whether it's funding the creative process or enabling the powerful depiction of postpartum struggles and the celebration of cultural diversity, your donation has the power to initiate conversations and drive change.

Please consider supporting this transformative project by donating and sharing the GoFundMe. Let's make a difference, together.

Hi! Prakash here. I have hijacked the Flat Tire Productions page today. Ever wondered about the origin story of “Liberty Avenue Singles?” Whose brilliant idea was it to have a Guyanese and Trinidadian live together? I recently had the opportunity to catch up with the cast of “Liberty Avenue Singles” on “The People Who Interest Me Podcast.” Come join us as we take a trip down memory lane with your favorite LAS characters. Let’s find how “Kevin” and “Panic” became roommates and if “Panic” ever sold any “BULL PEE.” We will finally answer the question… was “Liberty Avenue Singles” actually filmed on Liberty Avenue?

Films Shaping Narrative, Screening and Community Dialogue: An interactive two-part series hosted by Media Sutra’s own Manauvaskar Kublall, to support contemporary filmmakers to bring their work to audiences that intersect with the issues and movements in their films.

Join us on October 12 @ 7pm EST for community dialogue with Stefan Forbes, Writer/Director of the film Hold Your Fire, which tells the story of a 24-hr police standoff with four young Black Men who entered an NYC sporting goods store in 1973.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The ensuing conflict gripped the nation, and even today offers an important lens to discuss conflict de-escalation, police violence, toxic masculinity and the power of restorative practices. Critics have called Hold Your Fire “One of the year’s best films…taut, intense.” (RogerEbert.com) and "A jaw-dropper" (The New York Times).

Register for the October 12th conversation and you will receive access to view the film Hold Your Fire, register here: https://bit.ly/3rgRnEs

Our second screening and conversation focuses on a school victory in Chicago, where we learn and relive the story of NTA (National Teachers Academy), through the feature film Let The Little Light Shine, which has been praised as “a rousing tribute to grassroots activism.”

When a thriving, top-ranked elementary school is threatened to be closed and replaced by a new high school that favors the community’s wealthier residents, parents, students and educators fight for the elementary school’s survival.

Join the conversation with Kevin Shaw on October 25 at 7 pm EST, Register for this conversation and you will receive access to view the film, Let The Little Light Shine, register here: https://bit.ly/3E1BrNF
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Media Sutra invites our community to join in dialogue around the important issues raised by these films to make space for filmmakers and audiences to interact in meaningful ways.

About 5 years ago, I started learning more about my history and the ships used to transport Indian Indentured Laborers to Guyana and Trinidad. I've been researching it since.

It can be possible for us to trace our history by first reviewing birth certificates, death certificates, and marriage records. Then you can look at the ship records to see which ancestor came on which ship.

I saw a documentary by David Dabydeen where he was able to go through the ship records himself in Guyana in the 80s. However, the records were not preserved and I had this conviction to try to change that and hope that someone would do something about it.

Today I am going to stop waiting. I hope that the Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago, and British governments can properly store AND scan these records for us. It would be amazing for us to access this information online since so much of our history is endangered of being lost.

I created this petition to get signatures to show the governments that our community values these records and would like to be able to search the records online.

Please review and sign this petition so that we can show the governments our strength in numbers.

I was inspired to launch the petition today because Dr. Eric Williams wrote one of my favorite books (The History of the People of Trinidad and Tobago) in just 30 days in time for Independence!

Thank you for reading!
