🇺🇸 **Why isn't the VFW saying "Pass it now and fix it later?"**
It's a question we've heard from many veterans, and it's a fair one.
The VFW fully supports the **Major Richard Star Act**. Combat-injured retirees deserve the benefits they have earned.
So why oppose the funding mechanism in the Take Care of America's Veterans Act (TCAVA)?
Because this isn't just about today's bill.
Yes, Congress *could* pass TCAVA today and change it later. But history shows there is no guarantee that happens. Once a bill becomes law, the urgency to "fix it later" often disappears.
More importantly, we're concerned about the precedent.
If Congress funds one veterans' benefit by reducing another veterans' benefit, it sends the message that earned VA disability compensation is available as a budget offset whenever money is needed. That's a precedent we believe should never be set.
Veterans should never be asked to choose between supporting one group of veterans or protecting another.
The VFW's position is simple:

âś… Fully fund it.
❌ Don't pay for it by putting other veterans' earned benefits at risk.
