FROM THE WINY RADIO NEWSROOM: FROM THE AMERICAN LEGION POST 13: PUTNAM, CT: The Mayotte-Viens Post #13 of the American Legion recently made a $3,000 donation to the Danielson Veterans Coffee House at one of their regular breakfast gatherings, on Tuesday morning, 21 April 2026, at the Putnam Lodge of Elks. The donation will help pay for the meals that are served every Tuesday morning to more than 100 attendees. The DVCH provides a comfortable location for all veterans, both men and women of any age, to meet, have breakfast, socialize and connect with one another while providing and discussing information regarding veterans& #39; benefits and services through federal and state agencies and programs.
According to their President, Fred Ruhlemann, a US Navy Vietnam Era veteran, “we are in our 12 th year of operation, and going strong.” The DVCH also does monthly food distributions to needy recipients at the Farmers Market Pavilion. In Putnam.
According to Post #13 Commander Michael Rocchetti, a USAF Iraq War Veteran, “We are fortunate to have this organization in Putnam. The breakfast meals that the DVCH provide to the veterans are a special treat, especially for those on fixed- incomes, that can’t afford to eat at restaurants”.
“We greatly appreciate the generous donation made by Post 13. It will really help us feed the local veterans” added Mr Ruhlemann.
The Mayotte-Viens Post 13 American Legion was chartered in Putnam CT in 1919, shortly after the end of World War 1. The American Legion is the nation’s largest veteran’s organization, and it stands on four pillars: national security, veteran’s affairs and rehabilitation, children & youth, and Americanism.
