Our mission: We manage and preserve wetlands, watercourses, farmlands, woodlands, and other significant lands, protecting their scenic, natural, and historical value while providing educational and recreational benefits for all generations. In the early 1990s the O&G construction company wanted to excavate thousands of cubic yards of gravel from the regional water authority land off RT68 in Prospe

ct CT. Prospect Land Trust was originally a small group of individuals called COPE - Citizens Organized to Protect the Environment - who recruited top experts in traffic, real estate values and reports on traffic fatalities on RT 68. The Prospect Land Trust Inc. became incorporated as a Land Trust in February 1994. We are charted by the State of CT as a non-stock, non-profit corporation. The IRS granted us a 501c3 non-profit, tax-exempt organization. Prospect Land Trust holds memberships with the Land Trust Alliance, the Conn. Forest and Park Association, and the Land Trust Service Bureau, (Conn. Land Conservation Council).

Step back in time on our Fall Geology Hike in Prospect, where the very ground beneath your feet tells a 450-million-year-old story. Prospect is underlain by ancient gneiss and schist, shaped by folding, faulting, and even volcanic intrusions that reveal the dramatic forces that built New England. Along the way, you may spot sparkling garnets, quartz, and feldspar peeking from the rocks — reminders of the region’s deep-earth chemistry. Join us on Saturday October 18th to walk the trails, take in autumn’s colors, and discover how Prospect’s landscape holds secrets written in stone.
