Scott County Sheriff Luke Hennen and Scott County Attorney Ron Hocevar announced today that Jennifer Lynn Lieber, 47, of Credit River, was sentenced by Judge Lennon this afternoon to 306 months to the Department of Corrections.
Lieber was convicted by a Scott County jury in February 2026 of second-degree murder in connection with the March 4, 2024 death of her live-in boyfriend, 47-year-old David Joseph Nanovic.
Evidence presented at trial showed that Lieber had been drinking and engaged in a prolonged verbal altercation with Nanovic on the night of the incident. During the evening, she brandished a handgun and made threats. Nanovic was ultimately shot at close range, resulting in his death.
Lieber was arrested at the scene and later charged with second-degree murder. Following a two-week trial, a jury found her guilty.
“The successful prosecution of this case reflects the commitment of our investigators and our partnership with the Scott County Attorney’s Office to seek justice for victims of violent crime,” said Sheriff Luke Hennen. “Our thoughts remain with the family and loved ones of David Nanovic as they continue to navigate this loss.”
“This was a tragic and preventable act of violence,” said Scott County Attorney Ron Hocevar. “We are grateful for the work of law enforcement and the jury in holding the defendant accountable. While today’s sentencing cannot undo the harm caused, we hope it brings some measure of justice to the victim’s family.”
The Scott County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in the investigation by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office.
