Misuse of Identity as The Nature of Conflict:
Misuse of identity in conflict occurs when group markers—such as ethnicity, religion, or nationality—are manipulated, exaggerated, or instrumentalized to serve underlying material or political interests.
While conflicts often appear to be rooted in "ancient hatreds" or deeply held identity differences, they are frequently driven by leaders or groups exploiting these identities to mobilize support, solidify power, or exclude rivals.
Tribal and religious identities can be weaponized by actors who hide under them to commit evil and advance selfish motives, using them as tools for mobilization and covering their actions.
Many conflicts that appear to be religious or ethnic are, in reality, driven by secular interests such as political power, struggle for resources, or economic control.
This perspectives aligns with a widely held understanding of conflict, particularly in regions experiencing instability, where tribalism and religion are often used as tools to manipulate and mobilize people, rather than being the primary cause of the conflict itself.
This viewpoint suggests that the true battle is against manipulation, greed, and malice, which are disguised under legitimate identities to create division.
