A LIFE CHANGED. A LIFE STILL BEING LIVED. ❤️
In October 2019, a bicycle ride with friends David Bailey and Steve Wiedler changed Micky Dymond’s life. Debris on the path sent him crashing to the pavement, leaving him unconscious with a severe traumatic brain injury.
Nearly seven days later, Micky awoke from a coma without knowing where—or who—he was. Seeing Brenda Lyons’ familiar face brought a moment of recognition.
What followed was the work of rebuilding his life.
Memory loss. Damaged vision and hearing. Vertigo. Difficulty speaking. Skills that once came naturally had to be learned again. Then the pandemic interrupted his in-person therapy, making an already difficult recovery even more isolating.
To strengthen his memory, Micky practiced reading aloud and writing summaries. He chose a Bible given to him by a friend. It took more than a year to finish—a deeply meaningful part of his recovery.
Today, Micky still manages the effects of his TBI. Structure and daily routines help him navigate memory challenges. Recovery has meant learning how to live as a different version of himself.
“I have learned through this new version of myself to be far more present and concentrated on everything I do.”
He credits the people who stood beside him: his family, friends, and especially Brenda, who put her own life on hold to help him recover.
“Friends are sometimes like angels.”
Recently, Micky rode in a bicycle race across the West with Jeff Ward to raise money for Road 2 Recovery—the organization that helped him through his own hard times. For him, it was about giving back and sharing life with people he loves.
That is what we honor on Micky’s Life Day: his survival, his perseverance, and the life he continues to build.
