Safe Haven Farm Sanctuary Welcome to Safe Haven Farm Sanctuary. We are dedicated to compassion toward all living beings. We advocate for the protection of the natural environment.
(1)

We rescue farm animals, restore them to health and provide a safe home in which they can live out their lives. We develop educational materials for the public to increase awareness of the treatment of animals on factory farms, the impact of hunting on wildlife, and impact of our treatment of animals on the environment and human health. We advocate for the protection of all animals and provide opportunities for the public to meet animals in a welcoming farm setting where they can interact with the animals freely and appreciate their personalities. We provide resources and support for individuals wishing to try to follow a vegetarian or vegan diet. We work with other organizations with similar missions or goals to provide care and rehabilitation for animals, preserve open space, and educate the public.

What if going vegan wasn’t about what we give up, but everything we gain? 🌱

We gain the opportunity to live in alignment with our compassion for animals. We discover the incredible variety of plant-based foods that can nourish our bodies and support our well-being. We take meaningful steps toward reducing our environmental impact and protecting the planet we all depend on.

And perhaps we gain something less tangible, too… the peace that comes from knowing our everyday choices can reflect our deepest values.

For Flo and animals like her, choosing veganism means recognizing that their lives matter, too. They deserve to experience safety, comfort, companionship, and joy without having their lives cut short for human consumption.

We don’t need to see compassion as a limitation. We can embrace it as an opportunity to create a better world.

Veganism isn’t about living with less. It’s about making room for more kindness, more consideration, and more respect for the lives we share this planet with. 💚

There’s no place like home 🌈

Sweet Dorothy’s journey to Safe Haven began on the side of a road in Dobbs Ferry, where a Good Samaritan found her injured after she had reportedly been struck by a commercial van. With her left wing hanging heavily, her rescuer wrapped her up and searched for a safe place where she could get the care she desperately needed.

When Dorothy arrived at Safe Haven, we discovered a deep abdominal wound that required immediate veterinary attention. The trauma and stress of her injuries also appeared to trigger a latent viral infection, leaving her fighting for her life.

Dorothy needed weeks of intensive supportive care, but this little hen wasn’t ready to give up. After two months of dedicated treatment and rehabilitation, we’re overjoyed to share that she made a full recovery and has joined her new chicken family! 💖

We named her Dorothy after the beloved character from The Wizard of Oz. Like her namesake, she weathered a terrible storm and ultimately landed in a beautiful, magical new place.

Welcome home, Dorothy! There’s truly no place like Safe Haven. 🌈

Chance and Cory, two best friends enjoying a beautiful fall day together. 🍁

Horses are incredibly social animals. They form close relationships with one another, develop preferences for certain companions, and often find comfort in having a familiar friend nearby.

The need for connection isn’t unique to humans. Animals have their own relationships, their own ways of communicating, and their own special bonds.

We may not always understand everything they’re saying, but sometimes we don’t need to. Love is a universal language, and friendship has a way of speaking for itself. 🐴

She’s beautiful, she’s independent, she’s definitely not afraid to take charge… she’s Lola! ❤️

Lola came to Safe Haven Farm Sanctuary after being rescued from a hoarding situation. With 40 birds needing to be removed in a matter of days, it was an urgent situation, and Lola needed a chance at something better.

Now she is safe and loved by both her duck and human animal family. 🥰

Muscovy ducks have some fascinating features. Those distinctive red patches around their faces are called caruncles, and unlike most domestic ducks, Muscovies don’t have the same loud, familiar quack. They’re also natural foragers who enjoy searching for insects, seeds, and other tasty finds.

Lola is a unique individual with her own personality, preferences, and place in the world.

We’re happy she gets to enjoy her days in safety, surrounded by friends. 🌸

Have you met Jake? 😍

We welcomed this dapper mallard duck to our sanctuary family in the Summer of 2026.  Jake was sadly dumped in our sheep pasture. Though his flight feathers were clipped and we know very little about his past, he is safe now and living happily alongside our large flock of rescued ducks.

Jake is very energetic, always on the move, and our caretakers affectionately refer to him as our “patrol duck”! 🦆
