🤝 Economic development is about connections, collaboration and creating opportunities for Wilson County.

At the August 24 Wilson County Commissioners Court meeting, WCEDC President Jason Talley shared an overview of the work happening behind the scenes and an important distinction about the role WCEDC plays in economic development.

So, what does WCEDC do?

We provide information and respond to business prospects, make introductions and connect resources, coordinate site visits and requests for information, connect employers with utilities and workforce resources, and help bring the right people to the table.

And what does WCEDC NOT do?

WCEDC does not set tax rates or approve tax abatements. We do not make zoning or permitting decisions, control private land sales or purchases, choose which companies inquire about Wilson County, or make final decisions for cities, schools, the County or other taxing entities.

Our role is to create connections and opportunities so the people and organizations responsible for those decisions have the resources and relationships they need.

And that work is already underway!

From business prospects and site visits to medical, retail, workforce development and infrastructure initiatives, WCEDC is actively working to connect businesses, jobs, education, resources and opportunities throughout Wilson County.

We are grateful to Wilson County and Commissioners Court for recognizing the importance of this work!

Economic development is a team effort, and we’re proud to be one of the partners working with Wilson County.

⚡ A great day for connection, collaboration and economic development in Wilson County!

Our August 12 Win! with Wilson County meeting in La Vernia was a wonderful success, bringing together local businesses, community leaders and partners from across the county for an informative and productive afternoon.

A special thank you to Aaron Wagner, CEO of FELPS, for joining us as our featured speaker. Aaron shared valuable insight into the important connection between reliable electric infrastructure and economic development, and how utilities, businesses and community partners can work together to help position Wilson County for a strong future.

Following the meeting, attendees also had the opportunity to visit Kayco Spray Booths, a local La Vernia manufacturer, and get a firsthand look at their operation. We love opportunities to learn more about the businesses that are already doing great things right here in Wilson County!

Most of all, it was exciting to see so many people come together, exchange ideas, make connections and learn more about the work happening throughout our county.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, to FELPS for an excellent presentation, to Kayco Spray Booths for welcoming our group, and to Rabel’s Roadhaus BBQ for hosting us.

This is what Win! with Wilson County is all about: bringing people together, building relationships and creating opportunities for Wilson County. 🤝

🎉 WCEDC is excited to welcome TWO new members, D&D Custom Homes and Camden’s Adventure Zone!

Both businesses have something special in common: Jeanine Schoenert and a genuine commitment to the Wilson County community. 💙

Jeanine is a local developer and La Vernia resident whose work has helped create beautiful places for families to call home right here in Wilson County. Just as importantly, she continues to invest in our area, support local businesses and contribute to the community she calls home.

🎈 Camden’s Adventure Zone is another wonderful example of that community spirit! This La Vernia business gives local kids and families a place to play, celebrate, connect and have FUN, while providing a great family-friendly resource right here in our community.

The Wilson County Economic Development Corporation is excited to welcome Jennifer Thompson Baird as the new Executive Director of WCEDC.

Jennifer brings more than 20+ years of dedicated economic development experience through her service with the Stockdale Economic Development Corporation, where she served not only as a longtime board member, but also as Administrator. Throughout her tenure, she worked alongside the SEDC Board, city leadership, businesses, and community partners to help create meaningful growth and opportunities for Stockdale and the surrounding region.

A proud graduate of Stockdale ISD, Jennifer has always had a deep passion for supporting the economic vitality of Wilson County and the communities that make it special.
