Hooves Gone Wild Equine Sanctuary, Inc A sanctuary for horses & light livestock. 501c3 EIN # 88-4087004 Welcome to the Sanctuary Page. The Sanctuary is at capacity. The biggest expenses are Feed & Hay.

The mission of HGWES is to provide advocacy, rescue & permanent sanctuary for horses & light livestock. Advocacy includes educational outreach for better, economical horse keeping. All of the horses in the care of HGWES are here for the remainder of their days. To live out each day with their buddies with a promise from HGWES they will not be exploited in a manner that causes undo distress or be e

xposed to physical harm and they will never endure separation from the bonds they have with each other. They are free to roam on 15 acres and free to interact with all the animals also living here. HGWES also cares for a small herd of retired Angora Goats and a hand full of Alpacas. Keeping this promise to keep them safe and happy is hard work, a great expense and at times can be heart breaking. With your generosity great or small, physical or monetary makes all the difference for these beautiful, amazing creatures God made. z

Thank you for visiting, please consider a donation to HGWES to keep their lives meaningful. The focus of HGWES to be sustainable in order to keep our promise to the 12 souls currently residing here for life. 6 of those are over 20
years old. 3 were rescued from kill lots. 4 were rescued from going to auction. Annually HGWES goes through anywhere from 80 to 120 round bales. The current rate of horse quality hay is $100 - $120 a bale. HGWES puts out an average of 7 to 9 bales a month depending on drought conditions and health of grazing areas on the property. Horse Feed is $17/bag. HGWES purchases 80 bags every 6 weeks

When considering a donation, please consider that any amount is always a true blessing.

$17 buys a bag of feed - 1 50 # bag feeds 1 horse approximately 8 days
$100 buys a round bale of hay - 1 bale feeds 1 horse for 2 weeks (depending on the size/wgt of the bale)

The "Novelty Mindset" and it's dangers...
For those that don't know, I operate an Equine Sanctuary and this is exactly why I started it. It's small compared to many out there but to me it is a mighty effort to keep the ones here to live out their days in dignity, are kept safe and together. It's not all fun and games, it's hard and at time heart breaking, it's stressful but when it's a calling you don't have a choice.
One day horses will no longer be around. Sadly, I believe there will be a day not too far off when our grandkids and great grandkids will only be able to see one in a Zoo... As it is, to actually experience and appreciate working cow horses and other occupations horses do are becoming rare. In San Antonio, they voted to get rid of the Carriage Horses and replace them with ridiculous Electric Carriages, so basically electric cars! Where do the horses go, what happens to them? What happens to any of them that age out and can no longer work?
I have 12 souls here that have no clue the crazy goings on in the world, have no idea we’re in a severe drought, have no idea the rising cost of hay and feed. They know they wake up every day free to roam on 20 acres, free to hang out with their besties, free to be safe… They have no idea and I don’t want them to.
This society thrives in a "Novelty" mindset, and horses are sadly a big part of that.
**If anyone is interested in donating to help keep them happy, you can message me at our page, Hooves Gone Wild Equine Sanctuary (a nonprofit organization). Or if anyone is interested in volunteering with grooming every once in a while, or other fun stuff on their behalf let me know…

Freedom, vitality, independence and adventurous spirit is all we wish for you and your loved ones this 2026, the "Year of the Horse".
We couldn't ask for a better year to release "Throw Away Horses", so stay tuned! More to come, soon.
Happy 2026! 🐴🤎
