This Pride Month, we’re raising $20,000 to continue providing HIV prevention, STI testing, PrEP access, transgender health services, harm reduction, and community outreach for underserved LGBTQ+ individuals throughout Hampton Roads, Virginia.

Today I Had the Opportunity to Teach a High School Class About HIV & STI Prevention

Today, I had the privilege of speaking with high school students about HIV prevention, STI awareness, and the importance of making informed decisions about their health and future.

As a public health professional and Founder/CEO of ETSI Health Clinic, I believe that education is one of the most powerful tools we have to prevent HIV and reduce the spread of sexually transmitted infections. When young people are provided with accurate information in a safe and supportive environment, they are empowered to protect themselves and others.

The students were engaged, asked thoughtful questions, and demonstrated a genuine interest in learning about prevention, testing, PrEP, healthy relationships, and overall wellness. These conversations are critical to building healthier communities and reducing stigma surrounding sexual health.

I am grateful for every opportunity to work with our youth and help prepare the next generation with the knowledge they need to make healthy choices.

Thank you to the school administration, educators, and students for welcoming this important conversation.

Big progress is happening across Hampton Roads in the fight against syphilis.

One year after launching the regional “Stop Syphilis” initiative, healthcare systems and public health partners are reporting major milestones:

✅ Sentara Health reported a substantial 42% increase in testing from the project’s start through March 2026.
✅ More early detection and treatment opportunities
✅ 25% reduction in congenital syphilis cases across the Eastern region

This collaborative effort brings together the Virginia Department of Health, healthcare systems, schools, community organizations, correctional institutions, and universities with one shared goal: protecting our communities and eliminating congenital syphilis.

“Every baby born with syphilis is a preventable tragedy,” said Dr. Susan Girois, Director of the Norfolk Department of Public Health.

Led by a dedicated team of women committed to health equity, ETSI continues to break barriers and increase access to life-saving HIV services for underserved communities. Through this partnership, we have connected individuals to HIV testing, PrEP, treatment, and compassionate healthcare services that empower people to live healthier lives.
