Congratulations to Tom Shaver on his retirement! He directed the last concert of his high school teaching career tonight at Concerts at the Portage.

Tom, thank you for your incredible dedication, passion, and care you have given to your students over the past 32 years with 22 of those years here at Portage High School. Your commitment to music education has touched countless lives, helping students grow, not only as musicians, but also as confident, disciplined and compassionate individuals.

Tom, your patience, leadership and love of music have inspired generations of students. Sara, your support, encouragement and countless contributions behind the scenes have been equally important in creating such a positive and welcoming band family.

Together you have built more than a music program – you have created lasting memories, lifelong friendships in a community that will continue to benefit from your influence for years to come.

We are deeply grateful for the time, energy and heart you have invested in so many young people. Thank you for 22 remarkable years of service, dedication and inspiration.

A couple of volunteer opportunities are coming up for our music programs! You are all invited to our next open meeting on Wednesday May 27, 2026! This will be held in the choir/band room. Music Boosters is currently looking for someone to shadow our current football concession person for the fall of 2026. This can be a group of friends, a couple, or a single individual.

Our second volunteer opportunity will be on June 3! Music Boosters is looking for pie donations for the Jazz Band Concerts at the Park on Wednesday, June 3!
