🛹 National Nonprofit Day. Community Makes It Happen ❤️

Today, on National Nonprofit Day, I want to recognize the people and organizations who put in countless hours behind the scenes to make their communities better.

I recently had the opportunity to welcome John Celley, Director of Parks, Recreation & Forestry for the City of Baraboo, to the Portage Family Skate Park for a walkthrough and some great conversation about skateparks, community, and the renewed effort surrounding the future of Baraboo's skatepark.

I was wearing a couple different hats that day as President of the Portage Family Skate Park project and as a Skatepark Procurement Specialist with Grindline Skateparks. It was pretty cool to show John around our award-winning park here in Portage and share some of what our community learned along the way.

Most importantly, today is about recognizing the advocates who keep showing up.

A huge thank you to Friends of Baraboo Parks, including Chad Canfield, for continuing to advocate, organize, communicate, and keep the vision moving forward. Projects like these don't happen because of one person. They happen because residents, nonprofits, advocates, city leaders, donors, volunteers, and neighbors refuse to give up on an idea that can make their community better.

From one neighboring community to another, Portage is rooting for Baraboo. 🤝🛹

And from all of us at Grindline, thank you for keeping us connected and allowing us to be part of the conversation as this initiative gets moving again.

On , here's to everyone doing the work when nobody's watching. Those hours matter. Those conversations matter. And eventually, they turn into places that communities get to enjoy for generations. ❤️

Some gifts mean a little more than others.

Today, on my birthday, I opened a package from the Davis Skate Park Association and was honestly speechless. They sent me a one-of-a-kind graved Davis skate deck with a handwritten note, signed by every member of their board.

I don't take something like this lightly.

When Jack White first reached out to me back in 2023, Davis was just beginning its journey toward building a new skatepark. From day one, I tried to do what I love most share my experience, answer questions, encourage the community, and help point them in the right direction.
I also want to be clear: this project wasn't about me. It took an incredible amount of work from Jack, the Davis Skate Park Association, the City of Davis, the local skate community, and my teammates at Grindline.

I was fortunate enough to play a small part in helping along the way, and I'm grateful for the opportunity.

Jack wrote something in a LinkedIn recommendation that I'll never forget:

"The project would not be where it is today without his support during its most critical stages."

Reading those words was incredibly humbling. Knowing that someone felt supported enough to say that means more to me than they probably realize.

Skateboarding has introduced me to so many amazing people over the years, and moments like this remind me why I love what I do. It's never just about concrete it's about the people, the friendships, and the communities that come together to make these projects happen.

To Jack, every member of the Davis Skate Park Association, and everyone who signed this deck: thank you. This is something I'll always treasure.

Feeling extra thankful today. ❤️

Right before Go Skate Day and Father’s Day weekend, I’m reminded how special community really is. Huge thanks to the Portage Parks & Recreation Department for continuing to support the Portage Family Skatepark and giving locals the opportunity to help maintain something we all care deeply about.

Big shoutout to Mitchell Moll of North Range Pressure Washing and Concrete Repair LLC — local business owner, skateboarder, and skateboard dad. It’s pretty incredible seeing things come full circle. I remember collecting our first donations back in 2012, leading up to opening Phase 1 in 2016… and now seeing local skaters giving back to help maintain the park they helped build.

Today’s rust removal, coping repainting, crack repair, and maintenance work helps add more years of fun for everyone who uses this all-wheels park. And there’s more planned for next year.

This is what it’s about:
Skaters helping skaters. Supporting local. Giving back. 🛹

🚧 Portage Family Skate Park Maintenance Update - date changes 🚧

Heads up, skate community — the Portage Family Skate Park will be temporarily CLOSED on Thursday, June 18th for scheduled maintenance and improvement work.

Our team will be on site completing:
🛹 Painting coping
🔧 Concrete patching and repair work

Rain Date: Friday, June 19th (if weather impacts scheduled work).

⚠️ Please respect all caution tape and signage that will be placed around the park the morning of June 18th. The skatepark will reopen once all work is completed and an official announcement is posted by the Portage Park & Recreation Department.

We appreciate everyone’s patience while we work to keep the park safe and rolling smooth for the community.

Growing up next door, I was lucky to spend a lot of years around Steve and his family.

Those weren’t just neighbor moments they were real life lessons, laughs, and memories that stuck with me. He was the kind of guy who didn’t have to try hard to teach you something… you just picked it up being around him.

He taught me a lot about how to treat people, how to carry yourself, and what it means to be there for others.

Grateful for the time, the memories, and everything I learned along the way.

Hey friends and family Happy Easter. 🐣

Today’s a reminder of how important the people in our lives really are the ones we laugh with, lean on, and miss deeply.

Being back at my family home wasn’t easy. Seeing the space where my dad used to be hit hard. But I’m grateful I got to spend today with my mom and my good friend Andrew . No one should spend a day like today alone. ❤️

As we get older, life gets busy, and it’s easy to lose touch but that doesn’t mean the love isn’t there.

So here’s a simple reminder: reach out. Call someone. Check in.
It matters more than you think.
Life’s short. Don’t let time or differences get in the way of the people who mean the most.
