The Rio 3rd grade students learned about seeds, vegetables, and plant parts as they planted a "micro-farm" for their classrooms today. It was a great day for outdoor learning! They'll grow these for about 6 weeks and then harvest the best salad ever!

This zigzag goldenrod (Solidago flexicaulis) is in bloom right now in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. This eastern and central North American native goldenrod is shade tolerant and hardy in zones 3 to 8. It gets its name from the way the flowers alternate along the flower stem. Zigzag goldenrod is tolerant of black walnut’s juglone, attracts and supports pollinators, and is a host plant for several different moths.
