POV: You walk to the end of a wharf in Port Townsend and there’s just… a whale hanging out. 🐋

Meet Gunther, the gray whale skeleton suspended at the end of Union Wharf in downtown Port Townsend.

Gunther washed ashore near Port Townsend in the late 1990s, and today his skeleton has one of the best waterfront addresses in town—complete with Salish Sea views, passing boats, ferries, and the occasional curious visitor wondering, “Wait… is that a WHALE?”

Yep. It sure is.

Take a stroll down Union Wharf and say hi to one of downtown’s more unusual residents.

Calling all musicians, actors, poets, writers, dancers, comedians, singers, magicians, and more! Performances for the People will hold a series of (4) events beginning Saturday, October 3 from 3:00-5:00 pm and is open to all types of performing artists. Three 35-minute performances will be scheduled in a “variety show” style, with all performance genres welcome. Stripped-down and acoustic performances are suggested, as there is minimal space for scenery or large equipment, and the historic space needs to be treated in a leave-no-trace style.
