Walking/Running for a Purpose: Every Step Matters!
What a beautiful day to enjoy walking, running, or any outdoor activity! Today, I had the privilege of walking for two meaningful causes that are especially close to my heart.
I wanted to support the Capland Speech Therapy Center, where long time Rotarian Doris Alexander-Hale serves as Director. I also wanted to honor World Polio Day 2026 in support of the Rotary mission to eradicate polio worldwide, under the leadership of Carolyn J Brown, President of our local Rotary Club of Port Arthur.
Although our Rotary Club observed World Polio Day through a PolioPlus Social Hour October 22, I wanted to dedicate my steps today to both worthy causes. Speaking of walking, I was excited to Sea Rim Striders as I have participated in many Turkey Trots. This walk was especially meaningful to me because, following a serious fall that injured both of my knees earlier this year, walking is not always easy for me.
I may have been the last person to cross the finish line, but I FINISHED! And that is what matters most. I kept going because I was walking for noble purposes, and every step was a reminder that determination, perseverance, and a heart for service can carry us a long way. Sometimes, the greatest victory is simply refusing to give up!
The Capland Speech Therapy Center walk was made possible through the generous support of sponsors, including Valero Port Arthur Refinery; Ashley Beaumont | Nederland | Jasper; Howell Furniture; Darlean’s Market & Cafe; ABS Towing & Recovery; Texas Artists Museum of Port Arthur, Texas; and Wathen, DeShong & Juncker, LLP, along with the additional sponsors recognized in the attached photo. Thank you to these sponsors and everyone who helped make this meaningful event possible!
Missed the walks or our PolioPlus Social Hour? There is still time to make a difference! Consider making a donation to support the Capland Speech Therapy Center and its valuable work, and/or contribute to the Rotary Club of Port Arthur in support of the global effort to eradicate polio. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps move these missions forward.
Today was about more than walking. It was about purpose, perseverance, community, and service to others.
I WALKED. I PERSEVERED. I FINISHED. AND I WALKED FOR A PURPOSE! ❤️
Please enjoy a few photos from today’s walk along the absolutely beautiful Port Arthur Sea Wall!
