2024 LCGYF CONVENTION NEWS!!!
So here comes all those promised details! Convention this year is looking very unique and special, and we are so thankful for what’s the come. Let me take you through the schedule this year since we have a few different things lined up.
Registration will be in the back of the Tabernacle on Friday night beginning at 7pm. This should give everyone the option of either going to Pineville to check-in and getting supper or calling their hotel to inform them of your late check-in and eating on your way into Camp Po***ck. So often Convention can be so busy that the only time you see people from other churches is when you are sitting in rows during the sessions. We wanted to give everyone a little gathered free time on Friday night. Be prepared to bring your own cards and board games for a little Tabernacle hang out time following Session 1’s church time. Registration can be paid in cash or check as we are not equipped to accept money electronically.
On Saturday, we have some new developments here to announce for the first time! Saturday morning will begin with a Truth and Training Trek where students will get into small groups to complete a training walk gathering beads for their rope along the way. All this will be explained in greater detail on Saturday. Following Session 2, we will dismiss for lunch. We have negotiated a deal with Waybacks Arcade in Pineville to allow everyone unlimited game time at the arcade beginning at 2pm. From pinball to joysticks and action buttons, this should be a fun afternoon for students and adults alike. This is included in your registration fee. There is also a disc golf course across the street at Louisiana Christian University if any in your group would like to play some holes.
Hang with me here because we are about to diverge a little more. One of the challenges of hosting Convention in Po***ck is thinking about how to stay together and feed everyone. Session 3 is going to start much earlier than a typical Saturday night at 5:30pm. We will by no means be rushing this session and after we are done, our night activity will be dinner on the grounds mixed in with some Fall Fest games. The Popstand will be serving Camp Meetin’ Burgers, Pizza, Nachos, and Drinks. This will not be at inflated ballpark prices, but just to cover our cost for food. Plan for this meal to cost your student around $5. You may even see a “One of Everything” Combo for $7. The carnival games will be things you would have in a church parking lot Fall Fest. Students will earn a ticket for winning a game. They will put their name on their ticket and place it in a big barrel. On Sunday morning we’ll draw for a few special prizes!
Sunday morning’s session is at 10 am. After taking communion in our church groups and wrapping with up some announcements, we’ll head home from Camp Po***ck. This year we have a special opportunity with gathering space that we don’t normally get at a hotel or church. We want groups to really spend some time after our evening session to talk through the message and really nail down the bottom lines, answer questions from students, and follow through on any commitments made.
As for now… Please be praying for Kevin and Hannah and they continue to work through the messages for all our sessions. Be praying for NXT GEN and their rehearsals and for their openness as they lead us in worship. Be praying for leaders and for students (even those bozos who keep saying they are going then not going, and then jump on again. We all have ‘em!).
