Warm Greetings from Arlington, Texas!

From C4C Member Tony...I just wanted to share this picture I took last week of our newest team, Sammie and Beau. Sammie and Beau went on their first Canines for Christ Therapy Dog visit last week to Morada Memory Care.

It was a great start for everyone. I'm very excited to have Sammie and Beau onboard with our group.

They are already making a positive difference in people's lives.

Sweet Friendships!

Proverbs 27:9

Sweet friendships refresh the soul and awaken our hearts with joy, for good friends are like the anointing oil that yields the fragrant incense of God’s presence.

From our Junior Handlers!

From this month's newsletter!

Service dogs are trained to perform specific tasks for one person with a disability and have full public access rights, while therapy dogs provide comfort to multiple people in community settings and do not have the same legal protections.

Purpose and Role
Service Dogs: Individually trained to perform tasks that mitigate a specific handler’s disability, such as guiding the visually impaired, alerting to seizures, or assisting with mobility challenges American Kennel Club

Therapy Dogs: Provide emotional support, comfort, and companionship to multiple people in hospitals, schools, nursing homes, or disaster areas . They do not perform tasks for a single person’s disability.

Training Requirements
Service Dogs: Undergo extensive, task-specific training to reliably assist their handler in daily life. Training can be professional or owner-led but must meet high behavioral and task standards. Examples: Seizure alert dogs, seeing-eye dogs, mobility dogs

Therapy Dogs: Require training for calm behavior, socialization, and adaptability in public or clinical settings. They must be well-tempered and comfortable around strangers, but their training is less specialized than service dogs

Legal Rights and Access
Service Dogs: Protected under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), allowing access to public spaces such as restaurants, stores, and transportation

Therapy Dogs: Do not have public access rights and can only enter facilities where they are specifically invited

Handler Relationship
Service Dogs: Live with and work for one handler, focusing on their specific needs
Therapy Dogs: are trained to behave very well in many settings, not only focusing on their handler but also to the needs of others

A Quick Breakdown:

Therapy dogs provide comfort to many people. Service dogs are very specifically trained to assist someone with a disability.
Service dogs are allowed, by LAW, in all public areas - stores, restaurants, movie theaters, etc. Therapy dogs are allowed in public settings ONLY where you have permission from the management to be. This is a critical difference! Please make sure you have permission to bring your dog into a location prior to making a visit.

While each type of dog is different (therapy vs service), BOTH are extremely important and special in their own way!

Dog Tired! 😴

I erased my badge so my number doesn't show, but this is us at the end of the visit to floors 1 to 4 at Baptist today. Can you say "dog tired?" We visited with two patients today, including a man in Progressive Care. He said, "Lily made his day."
