We made it to the top! Mt Cardigan was conquered one step at a time by our scouts! Staying at the Application Mountain Club property, we hiked the Holt Trail and the Clark Trail to the summit! At the top the Fire Tower was open for visitors and the fire warden gave us an extended tour as he’s an Eagle Scout! S’mores and fellowship after dinner, along with a competitive game of UNO, this was another great adventure with Troop 54!

Today members of Troop 54 Plainfield traveled to Lithuania- actually the small part of Lithuania that’s in Ashford this week.
The Lithuanian Scouting Association, part of Scouting America, is at June Norcross Webster Scout Reservation this week and our scouts and leaders were asked to help out! Our Leader Mr. Carter presented parts of the merit badge Signs, Signals and Codes tailored to the Lithuanian Scouts and their leaders. Our scouts that attended all have the signs signals and code merit badge and were able to assist be Lithuanian Scouts learning Morse code and semaphore flag language.
Our scouts were able to have a meal with the visiting scouts featuring delicious traditional Lithuanian food, followed by songs of fellowship. This was a great international experience that our scouts look forward to volunteering at again next year!

Yesterday two members of our Warriors of the Waves patrol, accompanied by adult leader Mr. Carter, attended June Norcross Webster Scout Reservation’s week 7 trip white water rafting! They’re pictured in our fashionable Green quick dry Class B activity tee shirts!
They traveled from camp by bus to Deerfield Massachusetts, into the foothills of the Berkshires, to take on class 3 rapids over a seven mile trip! Our participating scouts earned the whitewater rafting experience award, and plan to take the whitewater merit badge next summer at JNW! We cannot say enough great things about this experience and our camp. Our scouts worked as a team, ‘rode the bull’- riding on the nose of the raft through class 2 rapids, had a balance contest walking on the perimeter of the raft, and won the splash war with the other rafts! We also experienced the highs and lows of New England weather with warm sun and heavy rain on the river. Plainfield Scouts started and ended summer with JNW, but summers not over yet! There are still some awesome adventures ahead with Troop 54!

If pictures are worth 1000 words here is the story of our last day at June Norcross Webster Scout Reservation
In reverse order because it only got better as the day went on, and we need to celebrate!
The Troop 54 Honor Camper Neckerchief was awarded at the closing ceremony to a scout who did not expect it. Scoutmaster George and the leadership team, which included fellow scouts, recognized this scouts personal growth and successes.
Adult leaders were recognized for their commitment to the troop, and SPL’s thanked for showing leadership! Our SPL even earned the ATV Safety certification which is required for youth to ride in many states. One scout had never had jello, until today. He was undecided.
Rope drop at the Polar Bear Swim! 8 scouts and leaders took up Mr. Dave’s challenge to earn the special neckerchief, and we wore them to the evening celebration. We were the only troop with 100% of the scouts and eligible leaders to earn this privilege.
We had an amazing week with interesting weather. In total our scouts earned 30 new merit badges, 5 rank advancements happened, with help from our friends in Colchester and Brooklyn, an ATV safety award, 3 adult training awards to better serve our youth, an Order of the Arrow election with a new youth and adult members and 2 troop activities makes for an awesome way to start the summer. Our scouts had a blast and found the best ways everyday to do our daily good turn and help our fellow scouts learn skills to make the world a better place.

Day 3 at June Norcross Webster Scout Reservation was a great day for our Plainfield Scouts! We were privileged to serve as the color guard at evening flags, leaving the adult leaders to do the troop reports at flags.
Our troop activity today was tomahawk throwing, Scoutmaster George had the high score! Two of our scouts picked up an additional merit badge, the rare bugling accomplishment! Currently out of the 140 merit badges offered by Scouting America bugling is number 140 in popularity!

Opening Ceremonies to June Norcross Webster Scout Reservation’s week 1! Powerful message about the history of scouting and the power of one light in the darkness, and how together we all shine brighter by building each other up.
Plainfield Troop 54 scouts are challenging themselves by getting out of their comfort zones and taking on new badges! Traditional ones like Astronomy and Kayaking to modern ones of Movie Making and Welding! Scouts are learning new skills of Small Boat Sailing and the ATV Safety Course! As the founder of scouting international Lord Baden-Powell said “A week of camp life is worth six months of theoretical teaching in the meeting room.”
