OSTDPS Highway Safety hosted two Car Seat Clinics this week. We would like to thank all the parents/guardians that stopped by our BAT mobile to pick up a car seat for your sacred cargo.
We are still in the Click It or Ticket mobilization so remember to Buckle Up, every trip, every time.

If you or a relative are in need of a child safety seat and you meet the qualifications, stop by our B.A.T. Mobile. Must have room in your pow wow van to have the car seat installed! We will also provide informational brochures and do car seat inspections.

Airbags alone won't keep you from being injured in a collision. Airbags inflate at extremely high speeds up to around 200 mph in just 30 to 50 milliseconds. PLEASE, increase you and your loved ones chances of avoiding injuries and utilize the seatbelt.
A seatbelt saves you from more than a ticket.

***Also children should never be in the front seat, the safest seating position for a child is always the backseat properly secured in a child safety seat!!!

May is National Youth Traffic Safety Month and it is a nationwide campaign to educate young drivers and prevent traffic accidents. Here are some facts about youth drivers:

Leading Cause of Death: Car accidents remain the leading cause of death for teenagers in America.

Inexperience: Mile for mile, teens are involved in three times as many fatal crashes as all other drivers.

High-Risk Periods: Prom, graduation, and the start of summer vacation lead to increased distractions and more teen drivers on the road

Here are some reminders to talk about with your young drivers:

Buckle up: Always wear a seat belt, every ride, every time. Make sure that all occupants of vehicle are wearing their seat belts.

Eliminate distractions: Put phones away and avoid adjusting radios or navigation while the car is in motion.

Limit passengers: Passenger distractions significantly increase crash risks for teen drivers.

Obey speed limits: Speeding is one of the most common factors in fatal teen crashes.

Never drive impaired: Never get behind the wheel under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Let's keep our young drivers safe on the roadways everyday!

In 2025, 31 children died of heatstroke in vehicles nationwide. Each one of those deaths was preventable. Heatstroke begins when the body's core temperature reaches 104 degrees. Death occurs when the body's core temperature reaches 107 degrees or above. A child's body temperature rises three to five times faster than an adult, meaning they are the most at risk for vehicular heatstroke. If you see a child alone in a car, act immediately and call 911, remove the child from the hot car as soon as possible, and begin to rapidly cool their body until emergency services arrive.
