Our mission is to foster and promote the general welfare and growth of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.

We serve as a catalyst for the promotion of goodwill among the administration, faculty, support staff, student body and alumni.

Our 2026 Above and Beyond Award Winner is Dr. Claudia Butler.

A nominee for consideration of the Above and Beyond Award shall (1) demonstrate the ability to go “above and beyond” his/her duties and/or responsibilities for the well-being of the organization and its members (2) embody positive and constructive acts to include, but are not limited to: leading by example, recognizing a need and doing what it takes to help the UAPB/AM&N Alumni grow and (3) possess the following characteristics: devotion, motivation, respect, compassion, and a strong belief in the goals and objectives of the UAPB/AM&N Alumni.

Dr. Claudia Butler is deserving of the 2026 Above and Beyond Award because of her continued dedication and service to UAPB. As a UAPB graduate, Life Member, National Alumni Association Board member, and member of the Chapter Development Committee, she works to strengthen alumni chapters and increase participation.

Dr. Butler is especially committed to engaging young alumni, developing future leaders, and building stronger relationships between younger and seasoned graduates. She also supports UAPB through student recruitment, mentoring, advocacy, volunteerism, and fundraising. Her leadership, service, and commitment to keeping alumni connected to UAPB reflect the true spirit of this award.

Every year, Prezzy Prez chooses a member of the National Alumni Association Board of Directors for the Board Boss Award. This year..... there were two.

Sooooooo, what exactly is a Board Boss?

A Board Boss is a member of the UAPB National Alumni Association Board of Directors whose leadership, initiative, and contributions make a lasting impression!

These are the members who find creative ways to serve, take initiative, champion our mission, and bring ideas to life. They understand that leadership takes many forms, and they consistently look for opportunities to make a difference.

Every Board member brings value to the table, and the Board Boss finds ways to turn that value into visible impact!

It's not about doing more than someone else. It's about recognizing those special moments when a member's commitment, creativity, and contributions deserve a little extra shine.

Because at the National Alumni Association, we celebrate leadership, appreciate service, and recognize those who help our beloved university ROAR a little louder!

Please congratulate our 2026 Board Bosses: Dr. Millicent Carmouche Burks and Yvonne Morton.

Although this was their first year serving on the board, they didn’t waste any time getting to work! They stepped into their roles ready to lead serve, contribute, and make a difference.

A Board Boss isn’t defined by how long you’ve been on the Board, but by the spirit of service, initiative, and commitment you bring to the table. We appreciate these two Board Bosses.

LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING ABOUT OUR 2026 HALL OF FAME HONOREES!

You have had the opportunity to read the impressive accomplishments of our 2026 Hall of Fame Honorees, and let me tell you… THESE PEOPLE HAVE PUT IN THE WORK!

We're talking about distinguished careers, professional accomplishments, leadership, service, and contributions that reflect the excellence and legacy of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.

And let me be clear: The UAPB Hall of Fame is not something everyone gets accepted into simply because they submit a nomination. This is a distinction that carries weight, and the caliber of our honorees reflects that.

So, if you've ever thought about being considered for the Hall of Fame, here's my advice: START PREPARING NOW!

Don't wait until nominations open to start gathering your accomplishments, updating your resume, documenting your professional achievements, and reflecting on the impact you've made in your career, community, and beyond.

When nominations open, be ready to present your story in a way that demonstrates the excellence, leadership, and impact that make you a strong candidate.

And if you know a fellow Golden Lion whose accomplishments deserve recognition, encourage them to prepare, too!

We have an incredible legacy at UAPB, and our Hall of Fame exists to recognize those who continue to build upon it.

Theo A. Hamiter, Sr. is our 2026 Hall of Fame Honoree in the Posthumous/Lifetime Achievement category.

Theo Hamiter arrived at Arkansas AM&N as a sharecropper’s son from Portland, Arkansas, with five dollars his father had tucked into his pocket. He graduated in 1962 with a degree in chemistry, spent twenty-four years as a biochemist at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Indianapolis — publishing research he presented on an international stage — earned an MBA, and ran his own real estate firm for thirty-seven years. But AM&N never left him: he bought Bell Tower bricks in memory of his parents, funded scholarships for students who could not otherwise afford college, and founded the Indianapolis Alumni Chapter. His life embodied our spirit: lift as you climb.

We were so happy to welcome his family to accept the award on his behalf.

Elzadia Washington is our 2026 Agriculture/Fisheries/Human Sciences Hall of Fame Honoree.

Elzadia Washington made history at this university: in 1976, she and her aunt, Edna Washington Conyer, became the first women to graduate from UAPB’s Agricultural Department. Drawing on her roots in Crittenden County, she went on to serve more than three decades as an American diplomat and Senior Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. Agency for International Development — living and working in eight countries, from Mali to Namibia, improving food security and reducing rural poverty around the world. Since returning home to Arkansas, she has continued that work with the National Black Growers Council and UAPB’s Small Farm Program.

Kelley Taylor is our 2026 Hall of Fame Honoree for Business/Industry

Kelley Taylor is Founding Partner and Chief Executive Officer of Taylor Construction Management, which she helped build from a startup into an award-winning, multimillion-dollar global project management firm overseeing more than four billion dollars in project budgets. Named among Houston’s Top 30 Influential Women and its Top 50 Women of Influence, she pairs business excellence with philanthropy: she and her husband, Troi, established the Troi and Kelley Taylor Family Endowed Scholarship Fund to open educational doors for future generations.

Sondra A. Strong is our 2026 Hall of Fame Honoree in the Arts/Visual category.

In the field of Visual Arts, Sondra Strong built two distinguished careers in one lifetime. A 1998 graduate in Mathematics Education, she served twenty-eight years as an educator — nineteen of them as a National Board Certified teacher, most with the Little Rock School District — while becoming a professional visual artist whose paintings and mixed-media works are collected by the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center, featured at the National Black Arts Festival in Atlanta, and held in the permanent collection of the Arkansas Arts Council. She donates her artwork to raise scholarship funds for students — creativity in the service of opportunity.

Dr. Samuel Lawrence Kelley is our 2026 Hall of Fame Honoree in Entertainment/Media

Dr. Samuel Lawrence Kelley, Class of 1970, is Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus of Communication Studies at the State University of New York at Cortland — one of that system’s highest faculty honors. A nationally recognized playwright, his award-winning works have been published and produced at Yale Repertory Theatre, Hartford Stage, and universities across the nation, bringing African American history and stories to life on stage. And his devotion to UAPB is measured in generosity: he spearheaded his family’s establishment of the James Wesley and Gertrude Kelley Endowed Scholarship, raising more than fifty-one thousand dollars in under six months.

Dr. Manuel Kelley is our 2026 Hall of Fame Honoree for Medicine/ Medical

Dr. Manuel Kelley, raised near Turkey Scratch, Arkansas, earned his degree in biology and chemistry, cm laude, from A.M. & N. College, and his medical degree from the University of Colorado. Across a forty-eight-year medical career, he served as Medical Director of the Lee County Cooperative Clinic, Chief of Staff at Lee Memorial Hospital, Medical Director of the Jefferson Comprehensive Care System — and as campus physician right here at UAPB. A Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, he has cared for the very community that raised him.

Supervisor Calvin Jordan is our 2026 Honoree in Law/Government.

Supervisor Calvin Jordan has devoted more than thirty years to public service, business, and community development. A graduate in Business Administration from UAPB, he serves as Supervisor of Rich Township in Cook County, Illinois, as President of the Township Officials of Cook County, and as First Vice Chair of the Cook County Democratic Party. His career includes service as Highway Commissioner, as a Senior Budget Analyst for the Cook County Board of Commissioners, and as Special Assistant to former Board President John Stroger. His leadership is rooted in integrity, sound governance, and economic opportunity for underserved communities.
