🚨 STOP STATION HILL. SAVE OUR OPEN SPACE. 🌳

The wooded property at Vanderslice st & Franklin/Gay st is on the chopping block. It’s currently owned by the rail line, but Audubon Land Development Corp is proposing to acquire and build 12 townhomes on the site. We recognize the need for housing, but there are already developed sites that don’t involve clearcutting mature trees where we’d rather see these houses built.

They are seeking a wide array of variances and waivers for things like slope disturbance, tree removal, environmental protection, stormwater management, street width, and more. The plans indicate that approximately 95% of the site’s steep slopes would be impacted.

The trees are a MAJOR concern. The Borough’s arborist has identified 8 large trees as Heritage Trees or likely Heritage Trees that the current plan would remove, including 5 American Sycamores, one of them 59” in diameter, 3 large Silver Maples, in addition to 4 publicly owned London Planes along Vanderslice.

Neighbors have reported that this site is home to precious wildlife including owls and a possible eagle. There’s still time to save it 🙏

Phoenixville is proud to be a Bird Town, and this year’s Summer Garden Tour celebrates what that looks like right at home in our yards, gardens, and shared spaces!

Bird Up! will spotlight local home and community gardens that support birds through native plants, layered landscapes, and biodiversity-friendly practices. These gardens show how small, thoughtful choices can make a big ecological difference. When we garden for birds, we also support pollinators and the wider web of life!

This self-guided tour allows you to explore at your own pace and discover practical, inspiring ideas you can use in your own spaces. Plus, there will be a native plant sale, raffles, and other fun surprises!
