Gracias to everyone who joined us for our latest design talk. We’re still vibrating from the conversation around Community Stewardship.
A special Gracias to our speakers:
• Eva Olivas for sharing the fire and the work happening in Central City South.
• Fernando Ruiz for reminding us of the 50+ years of resilience and service in South Phoenix.
• Dushawn John for a masterclass in moderating.
At The Sagrado, we believe that for our culture to thrive, we must be the ones designing our streets and our future. We are reclaiming the roles of planner, architect, and engineer to build a quality of life that honors our ancestors and protects our children. Deep appreciation for our community partners

Honoring our Roots. Designing our Shared Future.

Phoenix is growing, and with that growth comes the responsibility to ensure no one is left behind. To build a city that truly flourishes, we must understand the mechanics of how our neighborhoods change.

We’re gathering at the Audubon Center to explore the root causes of displacement and how it touches our lives—from the financial shifts affecting property ownership to the cultural shifts that impact the feeling of home for both long-term homeowners and renters.

We’ll also be looking closely at the landscape of our city. Often, modern architecture—with its high-rise condos and apartments—can feel disconnected from the ground it stands on, creating a sense of being “out of place” culturally. We believe our environment should be a mirror, not a wall. We need architectural design that invites the people’s culture, history, and spirit back into the skyline.

“This conversation isn’t about giving in to fear. It’s about transforming struggle into community Strength.” This is an invitation to be at the table. Design Empowerment PHX was built to provide the tools we need to be active participants in our environment.

We’ll be discussing the innovative solutions being created by community groups to ensure that as Phoenix evolves, its heart stays intact. We’re here to put knowledge back into our hands so we can shape a future where progress and preservation walk hand-in-hand.

Come with an open heart and a vision for what’s possible. Let’s culturally design together to ensure we aren’t just shaped by the future, but are the ones intentionally designing a space that feels like home.

2010 vs. 2026. The laws changed names, but the intent remains the same: to break what cannot be broken.
Local Xicano Photographer Sam Gomez captured this moment in Phoenix when the air was thick with SB1070. Today, we face a deadlier front, but our voices have only grown louder. Artists carry the heavy responsibility of reflecting the truth while brewing the medicine for a society being intentionally poisoned.

Winter Solstice 2025 ~ Rio Salado~South Central

11/30/2025

What a beautiful day yesterday at Mercado TONALLI! It was truly inspiring to see our community gather at the Rio Salado and take the time to slow down and connect with a place we often only drive by. Grounding in that space was magic.
A HUGE thanks to all the talented Vendors who shared their incredible work, and to Phoenix Parks & Recreation for supporting our community vision.
Gratitude also goes out to our incredible land stewards and naturopathic healers who provided free experiences and education, honoring the sacredness of this space.
Our goal is always to activate sacred spaces through arts, culture while supporting local artisans. Seeing our community come together at the Rio Salado is everything.
We are already looking forward to our next gathering! Stay tuned for dates and details.
Tlazocamati! Gracias!

Mercado TONALLI: Gather at the River! 🚲
Join us for Mercado TONALLI at the Rio Salado on South Central Ave, Saturday, Nov 29th, from 9 am to 1 pm!
This isn’t just a market—it’s a connection to our roots. Just as our ancestors gathered at the river for commerce in these desert lands, this artisans and farmers market brings community together for food, Arts and Cultura right by the Rio Salado.
Support your health and connect with the land! We encourage everyone to walk or bike the Rio Salado paths before, during, or after you visit the mercado. It’s the perfect way to move your body, enjoy the outdoors, and then celebrate with community and local vendors!
