AAPI Heritage Month in Pride Flag Colors

• Yuri Kochiyama – activist engaged in numerous political causes; worked with Malcolm X and Black Power organizations for racial justice; leader of the Asian American Movement in the 1960s; advocate for political prisoners, including reparations for WWII incarceration of Japanese Americans
• Grace Lee Boggs – activist, philosopher, and writer; engaged in theorizing and organizing for civil rights, labor under the threat of automation, Black Liberation, and dialectical humanism, emphasizing self-transformation as a requisite for systemic change; Ph.D. in Philosophy from Bryn Mawr College
• No Model – East Coast hardcore punk band depicting the struggles of Korean adoptees, attacking Western imperialism and the exploitative practices of international adoption
• Lyle Prijole & Kai Dana Rene Sorem – human rights activists and community organizers who visited the Philippines in solidarity with farmers resisting land grabs and systemic neglect; among the 19 individuals killed on April 19, 2026 by the Armed Forces of the Philippines

• Ocean Vuong - poet, essayist, and novelist; works include Night Sky with Exit Wounds (2016), On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous (2019), and Time Is a Mother (2022)
• Keanu Reeves - actor, comic book creator, bassist, philanthropist; his films include Bill & Ted’s Exellent Adventure (1989), My Own Private Idaho (1991), The Matrix (1999), and the John Wick franchise (2014-present)
• Saburo and Michiyo Inouye - managers of a hostel in West Philadelphia to help hundreds of displaced Japanese Americans relocate after WWII internment and also provide housing for foreign students at University of Pennsylvania
• Blue Scholars - Seattle-based hip hop duo focused on socioeconomic struggles, challenging authority, and youth empowerment

• Hinaleimoana Wong-Kalu – teacher, filmmaker, and community leader dedicated to preserving and promoting Native Hawaiian language and culture
• Lan Dinh – Farm and Food Sovereignty Projects Director and Co-Founder of VietLEAD, a community organization serving the Vietnamese and Southeast Asian communities in Philadelphia and South Jersey with direct services, education, advocacy, and organizing
• Ruth Asawa – modernist artist known for looped-wire sculpture inspired by natural and organic forms; art education advocate
• Charles Lee – Environmental Justice activist, Principal Researcher of “Toxic Wastes and Race in the United States,” a groundbreaking 1987 report showing the disproportionate impact of environmental hazards on minority and low-income communities
