Kesem at Penn

Kesem at Penn To support children through and beyond their parent’s cancer with innovative, fun-filled programs tha Kesem operates at more than 130 chapters coast-to-coast.

Kesem is a diverse community led by passionate and empathetic college students working to ensure that children facing the challenges of a parent’s cancer have space, connection, and support to rediscover the joys of childhood. Our mission is to support children through and beyond their parent’s cancer with free, fun-filled creative programs and a lasting community. Camp Kesem at University of Pennsylvania was founded in 2011 and supports children in the Philadelphia community by providing Camp Kesem, a free week-long summer camp experience, and year-round Through and Beyond support services. Our chapter is operated by 70 student volunteers and serves 160 campers ages 6-18 per year. Its programs and services are all funded by generous donations from individuals, foundations, and corporate partners. Kesem is a federally registered 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization.

🐛💰Our Development Coordinators are responsible for planning fundraisers and supporting chapter efforts to meet fundraising goals for camp! They ensure that we have a blast during all of our fundraising events - if you dont believe us, come to our next Toast this Saturday at 1 p.m.!

🐛 Hi Kesem families!! We are so excited for our first Club Kesem of the semester on October 11th from 7- 8 p.m.! Join us for some fun, friendship, and Kesem magic!

Club Kesem is a virtual Zoom call where campers and counselors chat, play games, and talk about camp! It’s a great opportunity to build friendships and for returning campers to see one another. It's also a great way for new campers to get a feel for camp!

🧽🧁🍃Next up, we have Spongebob, a Junior from Malvern, PA, studying Bioengineering; Cupcake, a Sophomore from Los Angeles, CA, studying Nursing and Nutrition; and Pesto, a Junior from Philadelphia, PA, studying Neuroscience- our outstanding Operations team!

🐛The Operations coordinators plan the logistics of camp, including daily activities and special events - we have them to thank for all the fun we have at camp every summer!

Cupcake is also our Teen Leadership Program (TLP)Coordinator, and she is responsible for organizing the program offered to campers ages 14-18 that focuses on providing fun, valuable opportunities for teens to develop their leadership skills and connect with their peers.
