Norris Square Neighborhood Project We have six special gardens that, together, make up the NSNP active green space to amplify our sense of belonging and our shared learning experiences.

What we made together at Las Parcelas is headed somewhere... 🇵🇷
Last week we welcomed artist Wanda Raimundi-Ortiz, the Vámonos Pa'l Monte team, local artists and community members to Las Parcelas for VAMOS A HACER: The Communal Co-Creation Journey.
Over food and conversation, participants worked together on pieces that will become part of Vámonos Pa'l Monte, Wanda’s interdisciplinary public art and community engagement project.
On Saturday, October 17, the project comes together in a four-mile journey from Center City to Norris Square. You can walk the full route or join along the way, ending with a celebratory Bombazo at Norris Square Park.
NSNP is proud to be a project partner alongside Taller Puertorriqueño.

🚨SATURDAY EVENT UPDATE🚨
Due to the weather forecast, tomorrow’s Volunteer Day and Raíces de Cambio Farm Stand are canceled.
El Jardín de la Música y El Espíritu, part of the North Philadelphia History Festival, has been postponed to Saturday, October 10 and will take place alongside El Bembé: Places of Power: Las Parcelas.
We’ll share more about the Oct. 10 celebration soon.

🌱 Make the Raíces de Cambio Farm Stand part of your Saturday plans

Every Saturday in September, our Raíces de Cambio youth sell vegetables, flowers and other items they’ve grown and harvested in the NSNP gardens.

Stop by Raíces Garden, support our youth and take home something fresh from the garden. Proceeds from the Farm Stand help maintain NSNP’s gardens and support our youth programs.

After a busy summer, we’re taking a rest…
NSNP’s office will be closed Monday, August 24 through Friday, August 28 while our team takes a summer break. We’ll be back Monday, August 31, rested and ready for everything coming this fall.

Some things take time to grow...🪴
Our youth are away on their camping trip this week, and it had us looking back at summers past.
For generations, young people have spent their summers with NSNP learning, exploring, getting outside the neighborhood, spending time in the gardens, and making memories together.
We brought a few of those memories back into Las Parcelas this week. Different years, different kids, different summers, all part of the same story that continues to grow.

You’ve probably walked past mugwort without even realizing it. Native to Asia, and now naturalized throughout Philadelphia and much of North America, mugwort can be found growing in fields and along sidewalks. When crushed, its leaves release a distinct floral aroma. Mugwort has a long history of traditional use, including in teas to support digestion, ease, restlessness, and promote sleep. Have you used mugwort before, or did someone in your family grow or use it? Tell us in the comments!

Another summer in the books! For more than 50 years, young people have spent their summers with NSNP learning, exploring, creating, growing and experiencing new things together. This summer brought another chapter. From our gardens and workshops to canoeing and a trip to Puerto Rico, our youth packed a lot into these last few months. Last week, they came together for their culminating event to celebrate it all. And some of the photos in this reel were taken by the youth themselves, giving us a glimpse of the summer through their eyes 💚 Here’s to another NSNP summer for the books!
