Offering healing and hope within our immigrant communities of youth and families

09/17/2026

Still feeling grateful after Saturday’s celebration of 10 years of Compás de Viaje.

Thank you to our youth, staff, community partners, families, board members, funders, and friends who joined us and have been part of this journey.

What a beautiful way to celebrate 10 years of creativity, connection, and community.

We’re celebrating 10 years of Compas de Viaje.

For a decade, Compas has been a space for newcomer youth to connect, create, grow, and be themselves.

We are especially grateful to the LPA staff who have built and sustained this program over the years.

Thank you to the youth, families, artists, and community partners who have also made these 10 years possible.

10 years with La Puerta Abierta. 💛

This week, we celebrated a very special milestone: Tamara's 10 years with LPA.

For a decade, Tamara has been an important part of LPA's work with young people, helping shape and grow programs like Compas de Viaje and creating spaces where youth can connect, create, and be themselves.

Tamara, thank you for the knowledge, creativity, humor, and commitment you have brought to LPA .

Happy 10 years! 🎂

Sanando Juntas is one of La Puerta Abierta’s therapeutic spaces, where immigrant women come together to talk, connect, and support one another.

Week by week, trust grows. Women have a place where they can speak openly, feel heard, and know they can return.

At La Puerta Abierta, we help make spaces like this possible.

Today, we stand with Colombia

We are in solidarity with everyone affected by the earthquake and with the Colombian community experiencing this moment from afar, worried about their families, friends, and communities.

Sometimes the words we use do not fully reflect what we are feeling.
Finding the words is not always easy. Listening with care can help someone feel less alone.

At La Puerta Abierta, we create space for immigrant and newcomer community members to speak openly, feel heard, and receive care that understands their experiences.

This week, LPA staff gathered around a table of local wildflowers to build bouquets, share stories, and slow down.

A simple moment, but a meaningful one. Care is also part of how we show up for each other.

Our hearts are with the Venezuelan community after the devastating earthquake on June 24. We are thinking of Venezuelan families, neighbors, and community members in Philadelphia and across Pennsylvania who may be grieving, worried, or carrying the weight of this tragedy from afar. We stand with you in solidarity and care.

As we gather for our annual in-person convening, we will use this time to provide mutual support, nourishment, and conversations and activities that inspire and sustain us for the continued work ahead.
We look forward to having this convening as an opportunity to connect.

You can translate words, but translating emotions, situations, and systems all day long is a different kind of exhaustion. One that sleep does not fix.
If this feeling is familiar, you are not imagining it.
Today, give yourself five minutes where you don't have to translate anything for anyone. Put the phone down. Sit somewhere quiet. Let your mind rest in the language it thinks in.
You have earned that
