New Salem and the Newcomer
Historian Gienapp wrote of New Salem: “The unpretentious newcomer named Abraham Lincoln quickly became an integral member of the community. Familiar with the cooperative work patterns of frontier society, where neighbors regularly supported each other, Lincoln eagerly took part in these communal activities.”

Note: He moved to New Salem in April 1831

Springing into action!

It’s a great weekend to visit Lincoln's New Salem State Historic Site!

Scouts from all over the Midwest are converging on the site and our campground to kickoff the annual Lincoln Pilgrimage - AND - we are having a Militia Muster as well.

The schedule of events for the militia is posted below! We will also have a Church Service in the Historic Village at 10AM on Sunday morning.

Come on out and learn about Abraham Lincoln and the 1830s this weekend!
