Introducing -- Keith Withrich, DRH Board Officer

We’re excited to announce that Keith Withrich has officially joined the Disaster Relief Haulers Board as an officer.

Keith’s commitment to DRH started the moment he stepped into the field with us. He was immediately impressed by how the organization operates and the impact our volunteers make when disaster strikes. After his first deployment, he knew he wanted to be part of the mission long‑term — and we’re grateful to have him on board.

Keith is a full‑time farmer and drives semi part‑time for Zimmerman Steel. His work ethic, steady leadership, and deep roots in the agricultural community make him an incredible addition to our team.

Please help us welcome Keith to the DRH Board. We’re proud to have him hauling hope with us. 🚛❤️

🌪️🚨 Hurricane Isaias Update: Storm Weakens, but Flooding Threat Continues

Hurricane Isaias made landfall near Destin, Florida, Friday night as a Category 2 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 105 mph. The storm has since weakened to a post-tropical cyclone as it moves inland across Alabama. However, dangerous conditions remain across parts of the Southeast.

🌧️ Ongoing concerns include:

* Flash flooding from heavy rainfall, including in areas well inland

* Strong winds and additional power outages

* Possible tornadoes across parts of Georgia and the Carolinas

* Dangerous surf and rip currents along Gulf Coast beaches

⚡ More than 500,000 customers across Florida, Alabama and Georgia were reported without power following the storm’s passage.

Emergency crews are working to assess damage and respond to flooding and outages. Even though Isaias is no longer a hurricane, the danger is far from over.

⚠️ Please avoid flooded roads, stay away from storm-damaged areas, and follow local emergency management updates. Remember: Turn around, don't drown.

🌪️🚨 Hurricane Isaias Update: Major Hurricane Taking Aim at the Gulf Coast

Hurricane Isaias has rapidly intensified into a Category 3 major hurricane, with sustained winds of 120 mph, as it heads toward the northern Gulf Coast. Landfall is expected Friday night or early Saturday, with the Florida Panhandle, southern Alabama and southern Mississippi facing significant threats.

⚠️ Potential impacts include:

🌊 Life-threatening storm surge, with 5–7 feet possible in some coastal areas
💨 Damaging hurricane-force winds and possible extended power outages
🌧️ 4–8 inches of rain, with isolated totals up to 15 inches
🌪️ Possible tornadoes
🚧 Dangerous flash flooding and road closures

🚨 Evacuations are underway in parts of Florida’s Panhandle, and coastal Alabama officials are urging visitors in vulnerable areas to leave. Residents should follow all evacuation orders and finish preparations immediately.

Even after landfall, heavy rain and damaging winds could continue inland through the weekend, affecting communities well beyond the immediate coastline.

🌪️ Hurricane Isaias Update: Gulf Coast Bracing for Landfall

As of Thursday morning, Hurricane Isaias is a Category 1 storm with maximum sustained winds of 80 mph. It is expected to strengthen further before reaching the northern Gulf Coast late Friday or early Saturday.

⚠️ Areas along the Gulf Coast are preparing for:
🌊 Life-threatening storm surge, with 5–7 feet possible in some areas
🌧️ 3–7 inches of rain, with isolated totals up to 10 inches
💨 Hurricane-force winds and damaging gusts
🌪️ Possible tornadoes
🚨 Flash and urban flooding

Hurricane warnings and storm surge warnings are already in effect along portions of the Louisiana, Mississippi and Florida coasts.

🚨 Florida remains under a state of emergency for 25 counties, with emergency officials staging generators, fuel, water, meals, flood barriers, sandbags and other supplies.

Residents in the projected impact area should finish preparations today and continue following local emergency management instructions.

🌪️ Florida Declares State of Emergency as Gulf Storm Strengthens

Florida is preparing for a potentially significant tropical system developing in the Gulf of America.

Tropical Depression Nine strengthened into Tropical Storm Isaias early Wednesday morning and is forecast to continue strengthening, with the potential to become the first hurricane of the 2026 Atlantic season. The system is currently moving east-northeast across the Gulf, with the northern Gulf Coast expected to see the greatest impacts later this week.

🚨 Florida Emergency Declaration

Governor Ron DeSantis has declared a State of Emergency for 25 Florida counties ahead of the storm. The counties include:

Baker, Bay, Calhoun, Columbia, Dixie, Escambia, Franklin, Gadsden, Gilchrist, Gulf, Hamilton, Holmes, Jackson, Jefferson, Lafayette, Leon, Liberty, Madison, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa, Suwannee, Taylor, Walton, Wakulla and Washington.

Florida emergency officials are already staging critical supplies, including:
🛢️ Generators and fuel
💧 Boxed water and shelf-stable meals
🧱 Flood barriers and sandbags
🛟 Flood buckets and tarps
🌊 Tiger Dams

The current forecast places the greatest landfall potential along the central Gulf Coast, but the exact track and intensity are still evolving. Residents throughout the northern Gulf Coast and North Florida should continue monitoring the forecast closely.

⚠️ For those in the potentially affected areas, now is the time to prepare — not when the storm arrives.

🌊🛳️ A Piece of History Emerges From the Sand on Nantucket

The recent nor’easter that battered the Northeast did more than bring powerful winds, heavy rain and coastal erosion — it uncovered what may be part of a shipwreck that has been buried beneath Nantucket’s shoreline for more than 140 years.

Large wooden timbers were exposed along Nantucket’s south shore, near where pieces of the schooner Warren Sawyer were discovered in 2022.

The Warren Sawyer ran aground near Miacomet Beach on December 22, 1884, while traveling from New Orleans to Boston with a cargo of cotton and scrap iron. All eight crew members were ultimately rescued. ⚓

Experts believe the newly exposed remains may be from the same wreck, but the identification has not yet been confirmed. Maritime archaeologists are investigating the site.

It’s a fascinating reminder of how powerful storms and coastal erosion can uncover pieces of history that have been hidden for generations. 🌊

Officials are asking the public not to disturb, walk on, dig around, or remove anything from the wreckage while archaeologists document the site.

🚨 Disaster & Emergency Declarations

🔴 New York: A State Disaster Emergency was declared effective September 25 for New York City and several surrounding counties, including Bronx, Kings, Nassau, New York, Queens, Richmond, Suffolk and Westchester, along with contiguous counties.

🔴 New Jersey: A State of Emergency was declared for eight counties: Atlantic, Burlington, Cape May, Cumberland, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean and Salem.

Connecticut activated its Emergency Operations Center and Massachusetts activated emergency preparedness measures as both states dealt with heavy rain, strong winds and coastal flooding threats.

🌊 Coastal communities continue to face the greatest concerns, including flooding during high tide, dangerous surf, erosion, power outages and difficult travel conditions.

Please continue to follow local emergency management guidance, avoid flooded roads and stay away from dangerous shorelines.
