Good morning! We hope all of you are faring well after this weekend's storm. The wind is in our favor for an herbicide treatment on Furnace Pond tomorrow, so boating and swimming will be restricted until Wednesday. If you have questions please feel free to email us or call Solitude at the number posted below. Have a great day, all!

The Pembroke Watershed Association is announcing the grand prize for our 2026 raffle: a beautifully hand-crafted Great Blue Heron stained glass panel, created by Whittemore-Durgin Stained Glass in Rockland.

Visit us at PEMBROKE CELEBRATES on Saturday to buy raffle tickets -- just $5 each, or 3 for $10. All proceeds go directly to protecting Pembroke's ponds and waterways.

Happy Labor Day from the Pembroke Watershed Association! 🎉💧

We're taking the long weekend off along with everyone else — enjoy the holiday!

A few quick notes before you head out to the water:

🔬 Pond testing update: Pembroke's ponds were tested on September 2nd by the Board of Health. Results are posted below (in the first comment).

🌊 A reminder: Please use good judgment around the water — if you spot algae blooms, avoid entering that area, and please follow the Town of Pembroke's bylaws, rules, and regulations for all pond use.

📞 Need to report something urgent this weekend? We're off, but here's who can help right away:

Unsafe water activities or injured/deceased animals on the water → MA Environmental Police: 800-632-8075

Injured or deceased animals on land → Pembroke Animal Control: 781-293-5288

Herring migration route issues → Herring Fisheries: 781-389-4548

Great Sandy Bottom Pond Reservoir concerns (no swimming, boating, or fishing there) → Abington/Rockland Joint Water Works: 781-878-0901

For everything else on Furnace Pond, Hobomock Pond, Big Sandy, Little Sandy, Oldham Pond, and Stetson Pond — we're your team! When we're back, send us your reports with as much detail (and photos!) as you can, and we'll dig in.

Thanks for being such great stewards of our ponds. Have a wonderful, safe Labor Day! 🦆🌿

Days are getting shorter and dusk is earlier, so please remember boats have to display the red-green bow lights and the white stern light after dusk. Also, a horn on the boat is mandatory. Be safe during the splendid sunset cruises of the late summer and early fall!

I caught a Facebook post this morning that neighbors on Big Sandy suspected Blue-green algae in the water. PWA got a sample and used a rapid test for the presence of these toxins harmful to pets and people with weakened immune systems. The test was weakly positive. Please heed the advice of your neighbors and stay away from this water.

Be safe!

Hey friends and neighbors,

I noticed a “sheen” on Furnace Pond this morning and my rapid Cyanobacteria test was negative. But out of an abundance of caution I want to remind people to not let your dog drink this water. This is not a bacteria that hurts humans with an intact immune system.

Use the comments for questions.

Thanks!

Jude has humbly corrected our post - she would rather be called an Analyst as opposed to an “expert”. This President stands corrected, but respectfully disagrees when congratulations are in order. 🤣
