Weekend Market Recap 📊 U.S. markets are closed today, so we’re looking back at Friday, September 25 and how the week finished. The S&P 500 gained 0.5%, the Dow rose 0.9%, the Nasdaq added 0.5%, and the Russell 2000 edged up 0.1%. For the week, the S&P 500, Dow, and Nasdaq all finished higher, while the Russell 2000 ended lower. One of the biggest themes was the relationship between oil prices and Treasury yields. Brent crude fell below $98 per barrel, helping ease some inflation concerns, while Treasury yields pulled back after the 10-year yield briefly approached its highest level since 2007. Today’s takeaway: markets respond to more than earnings and headlines. Energy prices, interest rates, inflation expectations, and borrowing costs all play a role in how investors value risk.

09/23/2026

September 23, 2026 brought a more cautious tone to the market as stronger economic data pushed Treasury yields higher and pressured stocks. In this market snapshot, the Dow was down 0.18%, the S&P 500 fell 0.53%, and the Nasdaq Composite declined 1.05%. At the same time, the 10-year Treasury yield climbed above 5%, while oil prices moved higher. Today’s lesson: strong economic data can be good news for growth, but markets may react differently when investors believe that strength could keep inflation and interest rates elevated for longer. That is why understanding the why behind the numbers matters just as much as watching whether the market is green or red. 📊

Tuesday’s pre-market setup is leaning slightly positive as oil prices continue to retreat and Treasury yields ease. Ahead of the opening bell, Dow and S&P 500 futures were up less than 0.1%, while Nasdaq futures were up 0.3%. The 10-year Treasury yield was near 4.93%, Brent crude was around $98.29, and U.S. crude had fallen below $90 per barrel. Today’s takeaway: lower oil prices can help ease inflation pressure, while lower bond yields can reduce borrowing-cost pressure. Both can influence how investors view risk, growth, and valuations.

Did you know the Sixteenth Amendment allows Congress to tax incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportioning the tax among the states according to population or relying on a census? Ratified in 1913, it established the constitutional framework for unapportioned federal income taxation.
⚖️ Case Brief Spotlight: Brushaber v. Union Pacific Railroad Co. (1916)
Facts: A Union Pacific Railroad shareholder challenged provisions of the federal income-tax law enacted after the Sixteenth Amendment.
Issue: Did the federal income tax violate constitutional limits on Congress’s taxing authority?
Holding: No. The Supreme Court rejected the challenge and explained that the Sixteenth Amendment did not create a wholly new taxing power; it removed the apportionment requirement for taxes on income covered by the Amendment.
Takeaway: Congress may impose federal taxes on income without dividing the tax among the states according to population, while other constitutional limits on federal taxation still apply.

Weekend Market Recap 📊
U.S. markets are closed today, so we’re looking back at Friday’s September 18 close and the week overall. The S&P 500 finished up 0.2%, the Nasdaq gained 0.4%, while the Dow slipped 0.2% and the Russell 2000 fell 0.5%. For the week, rising Treasury yields and volatile oil prices continued to influence investor sentiment, while the Nasdaq showed relative strength. Today’s takeaway: markets do not move on one factor alone. Interest rates, energy prices, inflation expectations, earnings, and investor sentiment all help shape the bigger picture.

BREAKING NEWS: Federal Reserve Raises Interest Rates
The Federal Reserve has raised its benchmark interest rate by 0.25 percentage points, taking the key rate to roughly 3.75% to 4% as officials continue their effort to bring inflation under control.
The move could keep pressure on borrowing costs for Americans, including credit-card balances, auto loans, business financing and some mortgage rates. Fed officials also signaled that additional rate increases may be possible later this year.
The decision comes as consumers continue to face elevated costs in key areas of the economy, including energy and everyday household expenses.

09/15/2026

On September 15, 2026, U.S. markets traded lower as higher oil prices and rising Treasury yields increased pressure on stocks. At approximately 2:03 p.m. ET, the S&P 500 was down 0.4%, the Dow was lower by 406 points (-0.8%), and the Nasdaq Composite was down 0.8%. Brent crude was trading around $109.35, while the 10-year Treasury yield was near 5.01%. Today’s takeaway: when energy prices and interest rates rise together, investors tend to reassess risk, borrowing costs, and future growth.
