Bring your questions about government and politics to our Mentor Session on Thursday,
March 23rd at 7pm EST.

At last month’s Mentor Session our expert was a savvy veteran political strategist. This month we wanted to include some youthful energy, so we invited an emerging Civic Trustee who knows how to get things done.

One of our guests is Cesar Romero who is an all-star Perth Amboy Civic Trustee. Cesar was able to advance the adoption of Power Civics in his school district and is currently working with our Law and Policy Task Force to develop a menu of local climate change response solutions.

Cesar is also an Honors student at New Jersey City University and a Team Commander at his local ROTC.

“This gives us a mechanism to acquire space for affordable housing or green space and to ensure that it stays affordable in perpetuity,” said Suku John, director of East Park Revitalization Alliance, a nonprofit that develops community gardens and open space in Strawberry Mansion. The group belongs to the Philadelphia Coalition for Affordable Communities, which partnered with Gauthier to create the legislation.

The legislation introduced in City Council would change how vacant city land is sold. One affordable housing advocate described the bill as “almost revolutionary.”
