Pasadena Community Foundation Serving Pasadena, Altadena, and Sierra Madre since 1953.

The Pasadena Community Foundation (PCF) was founded in 1953 with the goal to address "current needs unmet and future needs unforeseen." To meet these needs, the community foundation works with local families and groups to build hometown legacies that provide enduring support for its mission to improve and enrich the lives of people in the greater Pasadena area. Now, more than sixty years after its inception, the public-spirited organization remains unique in that it supports a broad spectrum of charities from arts organizations to human services agencies. Through an annual competitive application process, grants are awarded to Pasadena non-profits from endowments for which the PCF Board has discretion. Additional grants are generated through donor advised funds, family foundation funds, and other charitable funds where individuals or advisory committees direct the grants to charities anywhere in the country.

Grateful to be part of key milestones in Altadena’s recovery last week! 💙

We joined San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity to welcome Yolanda back home. Thanks to the work of SGV Habitat for Humanity, 25 families are on the path home. Three homes are complete, with 22 under construction or in permitting and pre-construction phases.

Next up, we checked in on Beacon Housing's installation of ten bungalows on Pine Street. Altadena Builds Back Foundation’s grant will help rebuild 14 affordable rental units.

But there’s still work to be done. ABBF and PCF, through the Eaton Fire Relief & Recovery Fund, will continue to support our community’s long-term recovery.

Altadena’s recovery gains more momentum today!

A new $350,000 grant from Altadena Builds Back Foundation will help our partners at Greenline Housing Foundation transform vacant lots into affordable homes for first-time homebuyers in West Altadena.

Greenline has been committed to the rebuilding and recovery of Altadena from day one, and their work will prioritize families displaced by the Eaton Fire. This funding will cover predevelopment costs associated with new construction.

We’re proud to support Greenline as they preserve the affordability and diversity for generations to come.

Check out our website for more information about this grant: https://pasadenacf.org/news/altadena-builds-back-foundation-helps-expand-affordable-homeownership/

And if you’re a fire survivor interested in learning more about Greenline’s work, reach out to [email protected].

Another Altadena family returned home this week!

We got to join our partners at San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity as they gave Phyllis the keys to her new home.

But the work doesn’t stop here. Our grant to SGV Habitat is supporting the rebuilding of 23 more homes, so more families can rejoin Phyllis in Altadena.

It's been more than a year since the Eaton Fire, and the nonprofit partners our community have leaned on are still helping neighbors despite being stretched thin.

So today, Pasadena Community Foundation is launching a $2 million capacity grant program to support nonprofit partners working alongside residents in Eaton Fire recovery.

This one-time grant program provides $200,000 in flexible funding to each nonprofit partner, strengthening their ability to support recovery in the years ahead.

The funding can go toward hiring staff, investing in technology, or building project management systems, so they’re able to keep showing up for fire survivors and their neighbors.

These organizations are established experts in housing affordability, mental health and child-well being support, and construction.

We’re incredibly proud to support: Altagether, San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity, Foothill Family, Greenline Housing Foundation, The Legacy Land Project, Early Care and Learning Collective, a project of Pacific Oaks College, Union Station Homeless Services, Clergy Community Coalition, Every Fire Survivor's Network, and Neighborhood Survants.

Eaton Fire survivors face a painful funding gap made worse by a complicated rebuilding process.

Today, the Altadena Builds Back Foundation announces a $4 million investment in Altadena Land Initiatives Corporation to help fire survivors rebuild.

This investment funds a new model for rebuilding: zero-interest construction gap loans, with no payments due until families receive Edison settlements, refinance, or sell. These loans will allow more Altadena families to begin the rebuilding process now.

Eaton Fire survivors and long-time Altadena residents built ALI, a nonprofit that provides construction gap financing and dedicated guidance from start to finish, including insurance and construction navigation. Families must rebuild with a vetted ALI builder.

To be eligible for financing, families must rebuild with a vetted ALI builder. ALI is now reviewing eligible families from an existing waitlist based on referrals from disaster case managers and nonprofit partners, including The Foothill Catalog Foundation, San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity, The Wiley Center, HPP Cares, and The Change Reaction.

Homeowners interested in working with a vetted builder can head over to ALI to determine if this program is right for them: https://alirebuilds.org.

Our community faces a long road to recovery from the Eaton Fire. We’re committed to ensuring resources are in place to support fire survivors over the long term.

Today, the Pasadena Community Foundation announces a $1 million grant to the Eaton Fire Collaborative Long-Term Recovery Group. This grant will provide direct assistance to fire survivors through the Unmet Needs Table and strengthen the Long-Term Recovery Group's ability to coordinate recovery efforts, mobilize resources, and serve survivors.

The Long-Term Recovery Group and the Unmet Needs Table will power our community’s recovery in the years ahead. The Unmet Needs Table has a pipeline of referred individuals ready and will start reviewing cases soon.

➡️The services and resources provided by the Long-Term Recovery Group include helping fire survivors navigate the rebuilding process and access assistance for essential home repairs or household expenses related to recovery.

➡️The Unmet Needs Table is a core part of the group’s work to support long-term recovery. Funders and service providers work together to review cases from disaster case managers and match each survivor with the resources available to them.

The needs of Eaton Fire survivors are great, and no single organization can meet them alone. We are grateful to partners like the American Red Cross, California Community Foundation, Catholic Charities of Los Angeles, and others. We’re asking more partners and funders to join us in supporting the Unmet Needs Table, so that more survivors can access the help they need.

Fire survivors can find a local disaster case management agency by calling 833-775-DCMP (3267) or visiting https://www.cccdcmp.org/.
