They say true healing requires a village—and ours just got a whole lot bigger! 🤝❤️

Opportunity Ministries is incredibly honored and thrilled to partner with SECU Credit Union and the SECU Maryland Foundation for their inspiring annual Day of Kindness! Together, we are turning compassion into direct action to support our community and uplift lives.

A massive, heartfelt shout-out goes to the visionary leaders who made this incredible collaboration possible:

• First and foremost, a very special thanks to Chandra McLean, Director of Community Engagement, for her incredible heart, unmatched coordination, and relentless dedication to bringing communities together. You are a true catalyst for change!

🙌 Nourishing Our Residents Nationwide 🙌 One more special thank you goes out to the Feed the Funnel organization. Food security is a vital pillar of health, and SECU brought the power of this nationwide program right to our doorstep. Thanks to the immense coordination of SECU volunteers, thousands of nutritious meals were packed and delivered to local nonprofits, including Opportunity Ministries!

👶 Bridging the Gap: Blessed Provisions Diaper and Toiletry Bank 🧴 In addition to these incredible meals, essential hygiene resources and diaper security are making their way directly to the mothers and children living in our Mary’s Lamb program. These critical supply chains are powered directly by Priscilla Miles, MPH, the founder of Blessed Provisions Diaper and Toiletry Bank. Blessed Provisions targets hygiene poverty for working-constrained families, and their alliance with us ensures our resident mothers have the basic necessities to keep their children happy and safe.

We are deeply grateful for Chandra, Charlotte, Katie, Bree, Priscilla, and the entire SECU volunteer team for standing with us at Opportunity Ministries, fighting food and diaper insecurity, and proving that kindness truly is the most powerful force we have! 🕊️✨

SOMETHING GOD IS HAPPENING - Joy, Strikes, Spares, and Saving/Rebuilding Lives! ✝️🎳 🙌🏽🕊🙏🏽

Yesterday, the Opportunity Ministries family took over the AMF Southdale Lanes in Pasadena, MD, for our quarterly bowling outing, and the energy was absolutely electric! It was an awesome evening packed with love, friendship, and that healthy competitive spirit that pushes us all to keep winning in life. 🏆❤️

From our men’s and women’s programs to the beautiful women and children's homes, seeing everyone come together to build true camaraderie and lifelong connections is what recovery is all about.

A massive, heartfelt thank you to our visionary founders, Larry and Mickey Kramer. Thank you for creating Opportunity Ministries and for your relentless dedication to saving lives, providing housing, and lifting up individuals rewriting their stories after facing homelessness and addiction. 🙏🏾🤝 GOD IS FAITHFUL: A winning partnership for lifelong recovery in Maryland!

Today, Opportunity Ministries had the absolute honor of attending Recovery Centers of America’s (RCA) 2nd Annual "Recovery Doesn't Discriminate" Speaker Jam and 2nd Annual Alumni Association Reunion.

A massive thank you to Jillian Johnston, RCA’s Outreach and Business Development Manager, for inviting us. Jillian is a proud protégé of Opportunity Ministries, having spent over 18 months in our recovery housing in Anne Arundel County. Seeing her thrive, lead, and give back in this role is a beautiful testament to the power of recovery!

We also want to extend our deepest gratitude to the wonderful event host, Brittany Rieman (Capital Region Alumni Coordinator). It was incredible networking with you, the RCA team, and the many fantastic vendors serving Southern Maryland.

🎉 Celebrating 5 Years Clean & Sober: Congratulations, Sabrina Gordon! 🎉

The Opportunity Ministries family is bursting with pride today! Our very own Gordon is celebrating a massive milestone—5 years clean and sober! 🙌✨

Sabrina’s journey defines resilience. For over 4 years, she has been a vital part of our team while working two full-time jobs, overcoming addiction, and co-raising her daughter alongside her own mother as a dedicated single mom.

Today, her daughter Destiny is a freshman at the prestigious Louisiana State University (LSU), pursuing her dream of a law degree! đź’śđź’›

At the office, Sabrina is our absolute Superwoman. As one of our top administrative staff members, she keeps us running. If anyone ever has a question, the answer is always: "Ask Sabrina!"

A HUGE THANK YOU to Union Church BWI Campus (Glen Burnie, MD)! 🙌

Yesterday, a powerful team of about 12 volunteers blessed Opportunity Ministries by landscaping our Women's & Men's Margate recovery homes and detailing our ministry's transportation van we use daily for our residents.

Special thanks to Emily and Mandie for leading this incredible crew and dedicated volunteer service. The spirit of God was truly present—they led with prayer, and with such a joyful spirit thoughout the entire day.

From the bottom of our hearts at Opportunity Ministries, we thank each and every one of you volunteers for partnering with us! You made a lasting impact. ❤️

As a fellow member of the Pasadena Business Association, we also want to give a massive, special shout-out to Dottie Snyder, owner of Nature's Caretakers LLC! 🌸🚜

In a short window of time, Dottie stepped right in and worked her magic. She coordinated the entire purchase of our beautiful new flowers and designed the exact layout for the flower and bush beds.

JOE'S STORY: MIRACLE 68 DAYS CLEAN - FROM SURVING TO THRIVING

The concrete of Baltimore City doesn’t just pave the streets; for a young Joe Koehler, it seemed to harden around his very future. Growing up in a neighborhood where survival was a daily negotiation, Joe found himself caught in the devastating grip of a crack co***ne addiction—a shadow that ultimately claimed the lives of all five of his siblings to substance use disorder.

Sadly, left behind as the last one standing, Joe became a self-described loner, navigating a world that felt increasingly empty, silent, and hostile.Yet, even in a life defined by immense hardship, there were powerful chapters of triumph. Joe fought his way to nine years clean, a monumental testament to his resilience. During this era of peace, he found a profound, unconditional love that kept him grounded—his pet Yorkie, Mac. Joe loved Mac with all his heart, and that little dog became his constant companion, breaking through the isolation of his world and offering a pure, unwavering bond when Joe needed it most.

But the path of recovery is rarely a straight line, and the cycle of survival eventually pulled him back. He collected legal charges not out of malice, but out of necessity, stealing just to get by. On July 3rd, that cycle brought him to the gates of the Anne Arundel County Jennifer Road Detention Center.

While inside, a deeper truth came to light: Joe wasn't just isolated by his past; he was struggling with a profound, undiagnosed hearing impairment that had long cut him off from the world around him.

Joe's arrival at Jennifer Road became the catalyst for a life-changing intervention. In a strategic, collaborative effort, the Detention Center teamed up with the Anne Arundel County Crisis Response System—led by the dedicated leadership efforts of Jen Corbin and Leslie Hodges—alongside Opportunity Ministries' leadership staff with Arnold Moreland and Mark Anderson.

Recognizing that Joe needed a bridge to a better life rather than a cell, the legal system referred him to Opportunity Ministries' Sunnybrook Crisis Bed location for 10 days of stabilization in Glen Burnie.

Today, Joe has found his way to the Arnold House in Arnold, Maryland. Immersed in the supportive structures of the Opportunity Ministries program, he is thriving in active recovery—participating in counseling therapy, 12-step meetings, going to church, practicing accountability, and surrounding himself with a true community of friends while faithfully serving God. While he still has a ways to go—with the Crisis Response and Opportunity Ministries teams continually rallying to support his upcoming court dates and his health as he awaits a crucial audiologist appointment this December 23rd—Joe is no longer navigating his the silence alone.

From the tough streets of Baltimore to a life of faith, fellowship, and hope, his journey proves it is never too late to heal. Congratulations, Joseph. You are an inspiration to us all.
