Due to the lapse of appropriations across the Department of War, Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island will have the following changes that could impact service members, their families, or guests visiting the base:

-For visiting families coming to the base for graduations, know there are no impacts to you or your Marine during this furlough period. The Marine Corps will continue to train and graduate Marines on time. Visiting families and guests coming to graduation will continue to have access to the base for Family Day and Graduation activities using the Visitor Gate for entry.

-The Parris Island Museum will have reduced hours during the furlough period. The museum will be opened only on Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

-All Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS) operations, to include the PX, Legends Golf Course, etc., will remain open and operational without any changes to normal operating hours. Additionally, the commissary will remain open and operational without any changes to normal operating hours.

-The Pass and ID office will be closed during the furlough period. All individuals needing base access will be vetted by the Provost Marshal Office staff which will be conducted exclusively at the Main Gate and the Commercial Gate. Upon successful completion of the vetting procedures, visitors will be issued passes directly by the police officers at the gate. This temporary measure will primarily impact golfers and individuals applying for DBIDS access. We ask that any individuals potentially impacted by these requirements please plan for delays upon entry to the base and be patient with our staff as these cursory background checks do take time to complete.

If there are any additional changes, we will provide updates on our planned actions through the official MCRD Parris Island command website and official social media accounts.

Parris Island Heritage Foundation’s Board retreat was a strategic planning session to work on greater awareness and education of our Marine Corps and its history on Parris Island to help strengthen recruitment. It’s great having them on board!
