While reflecting on the many seasons and changes the Parris Island Spouses Club has experienced, we came across something worth sharing.
It is no surprise that Parris Island is in the middle of JJAS, the busiest time of the year. As families begin another 13-week training cycle, we want to remind you that what you do at home is seen and appreciated.
As military spouses, we go wherever the Marine Corps or Navy sends our loved ones. The days can feel long and the weeks even longer, but your steadiness matters more than you know.
Like the tail of a kite, you help keep everything balanced and on course.
🪁Adapted from “The Commander’s Wife,” by Mrs. George Catlett Marshall
One morning as we were walking along the beach, watching the children flying their kites on the dunes above us, I began to laugh.
“What are you laughing at?” my husband asked.
“They remind me of a Military Spouse,” I said.
“What?” “The kites?”
“No,” I answered. “The tails. They have no say as to where they go, but they are always there, trailing along in the rear.”
“How high do you think a kite would fly without its tail?” he mused. “If the tail is too heavy, it falls to the ground; if it is too light, it flies a devious course, but if well balanced, the kite soars high. There is nothing more important to a kite than the good appendage that steadies it.”
