While Mid-Ohio Valley Climate Action is working to replenish and strengthen our fundraising capabilities for our general fund—providing a stable stream of funding that is not fueled by grants with specific aims but available for discretionary purposes—we would like to encourage you as individuals and organizations to support some phenomenal groups and orgs and their missions as you are able.

Two in particular that I would like to spotlight today, with many more to come as part of our broad, multi-state coalition, are ReImagine Appalachia and Black By God The West Virginian. I mention these two in particular because we unfortunately had and will have to miss out on partnering with them in important ways this month and next, but we want to make sure you do not miss out on supporting these incredible groups and their projects.

Reimagine Appalachia is one of the busiest and most active initiatives, comprised of many supporting partner organizations including ourselves, that I have ever witnessed. Please check them out at reimagineappalachia.org and get involved or offer your support however possible.

Black By God (BBG) is a “community-led news organization that aims to provide a more nuanced portrayal of the Black experience in West Virginia and Appalachia.” Having met and gotten acquainted with BBG’s founder, Crystal Good, and having read and helped share around many of BBG’s editions, I can tell you this organization is something truly special and worthy of your time, though Crystal and BBG speak for themselves and certainly don’t require my endorsement. You can learn more and explore at blackbygod.org.

BLACK BY GOD | The West Virginian is a community-led news organization.

We at MOVCA are so excited to help promote this INCREDIBLE upcoming event and opportunity from Solar Holler! The Parkersburg & Wood County Public Library will be hosting this event on August 15 (details pictured) and Solar Holler Marketing Director, Heather Ransom, will provide a presentation and answer questions.

This lease arrangement (described in right-hand picture below) is such an amazing opportunity! This opens up solar possibilities to a whole new range of folks!

MOVCA is not a cosponsor of the event only because we do not want to show favoritism for one solar installation company over any other, but what Solar Holler is doing is so exciting and we’re thrilled to promote it. We’re also thrilled to share that Solar Holler uses only IBEW union labor for their installations!

Please come out and learn more in August and share this information widely!

We now have 106 yard signs to give out (pictured are both sides of one sign). I have them in my garage and you can reach out to me privately for my address or another arrangement to get one.

Because of the difficulty and expense of getting these to far off locations, I’m really looking to get them out in the Wood County, WV and Washington County, OH areas and maybe a 20-30 mile surrounding radius. If you live further than that and may find yourself in the area, by all means we can get you a sign or signs to take back home with you.

We want to get these out there so please share this widely and reach out to me! You can reach me at (304) 488-4384 or Facebook messenger. Text or call, leave voicemail if I don’t answer, please.

Meta has changed the way it does fundraisers and, despite the fact that we are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit on the IRS registry, we’re not available for fundraising purposes through Facebook (yet). But that’s OK! You can still help us out for !

If you’d like to give a tax deductible donation, please visit movclimateaction.org and click on the donate button right there on the landing page to donate to us via PayPal using a credit card, debit card or your PayPal account.

Please check out our end-of-year report pictured below, which includes another way to donate. We’ve accomplished so much and hope to accomplish much more in ‘24, with your help!

Many years ago when I was setting up pages on Facebook, I made an error and created a group page as our main hub on Facebook and then created this page following that. If you’re liking and following this page, I encourage you to also head over and like/follow our extremely popular and informative group page by going to Mid-Ohio Valley Climate Action. Thank you!

Hi, my name is ____, & I’m from ____. I’m calling with the Indigenous Environmental Network and People vs Fossil Fuels coalition. With climate disasters mounting and Congress at a standstill, we’re counting on Biden to declare a climate emergency NOW and stop approving fossil fuel leases, exports, and infrastructure.

A statement of support for the Wet’suwet’en First Nation on behalf of Mid-Ohio Valley Climate Action:

"The members of Mid-Ohio Valley Climate Action stand in solidarity with the Wet’suwet’en people.

We fully and on no uncertain terms condemn the violent raids carried out against land defenders and journalists by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, on behalf of Coastal GasLink and the TC Energy Corporation. The violation of First Nation sovereignty and rights to self-determination on behalf of extractive industries, or by any other entity, are thoroughly disgraceful and completely unacceptable.

The Costal GasLink pipeline running through Wet’suwet’en land, violating both Indigenous and Canadian laws, must immediately cease operations, and the rights of the Wet’suwet’en people be fully restored. Anything short of this represents a gross violation of human rights of the highest order by the Canadian government."
