Today, on Indigenous People's Day, we honor the rich cultures, traditions and wisdom of Indigenous peoples, especially their deep connection to the land and their generations of care for creation.

As Passionists, we are called to listen with compassion, recognize the wounds of history and work toward a future rooted in dignity, justice and respect for all.

Not all suffering is visible. No one should have to face it alone.

On World Mental Health Day, we join Pope Leo XIV’s October prayer intention for mental health ministry throughout the Church, helping to overcome stigma and discrimination against people living with mental illness.

As a Passionist Family, may we recognize Christ in those who are hurting and offer our presence, even when we do not have answers. May our communities be places where seeking help is met with compassion, not shame.

In a time when it can be easy to reduce people to political identities, disagreements or categories, our faith asks us to see something deeper: a human person, created and loved by God.

The Passion reminds us of the immeasurable value of every human life and calls us to recognize that dignity in one another, including people whose lives and experiences are different from our own.

As Passionists, we embrace the crucified Christ in the crucified of our world, including our crucified Earth. In this time of discernment, we invite you to take to heart the important issues of our time in light of the Gospel and the solidarity and courage that come from the Passionist charism.

Just as St. Paul of the Cross saw the name of Jesus written on the foreheads of the poor of his time, so too are we called to see the face of Christ in our sisters and brothers and Earth herself. We want to be painfully aware of their sufferings and to actively accompany them to a place of justice, dignity, well-being, belonging, and peace.

We invite you to join us in prayer over the next weeks. Watch for our posts inspired by the documents that shape our lives as the Passionist Family.

On Sunday, October 4, St. Gabriel’s Passionist Parish in Toronto, Ontario, concluded their celebration of this 2026 Season of Creation with a Blessing of Animals. Over thirty parishioners brought dogs, cats, rabbits and even a lizard to receive a blessing from Fr. Paul Ruttle, CP.

In his own words, “These animals, these gifts of God’s creation, have been blessings to your lives with their companionship, their loyalty, and the joy they bring to you. Now, we ask God to bless them with health and happiness, and with many years of life with you.”
