Huge thank you to Legacy Equipment today for harvesting our corn! Thank you to the truckers that hauled it to Peco and our grain bin. We couldn’t have made it happen without you!
GCT FFA has an 80 acre row crop farm in Walcott that is managed by students. Students are involved in equipment maintenance, equipment operation, tillage, GPS technology, planting, irrigation, and harvest on the farm. Our goal is to educate the next generation of farm workers. Most of our students do not have an agricultural background. The Farm is a place that students can drive a tractor for the first time and apply the knowledge they learn in the classroom.
We also have a grain bin and bagging operation at the high school. Our students bag the corn raised in our farm into 50 pound sacks to be sold at feed stores. This teaches work ethic, safety, and efficiency skills.
The Farm is a major funding source of our program. All the proceeds from the Farm go back to the program. The money is used to improve the farm, purchase classroom/shop supplies, send kids to leadership camps, provide pickup trucks to haul students and livestock, and the list goes on.
