Our local ecosystem is part of a beautifully complex, interconnected world. Today marks the autumn equinox, a crucial turning point that sets the rhythm for our conservation efforts. By understanding how these planetary shifts affect us locally, we can work in harmony with nature. Here in Brevard County, our subtropical climate brings mild winters and humid summers. Tuning into this natural calendar is the key to perfectly timing our , designing thriving , and planting resilient .

Fall arrives today at 8:05 pm ET! 🍂

Today’s Fall Equinox marks the start of astronomical fall in the Northern Hemisphere and is the moment when the Sun is directly over Earth’s equator. From now through the Winter Solstice on December 21, the Northern Hemisphere will receive increasingly less direct sunlight as Earth continues along its tilted orbit around the Sun.

🌊💚 Little Growers Youth in Action! 💚🌊

Today, Little Growers, Inc. students are representing LGI at the Resources Council Youth Action Assembly, learning about the health of the Indian River Lagoon and the challenges impacting this important ecosystem.

From nutrient pollution and stormwater runoff to harmful algal blooms and climate change, our students are learning how these issues affect the Lagoon—and how young people can be part of the solution. 🌱

At Little Growers, we believe environmental education should lead to action, leadership, and youth having a seat at the table. We’re proud to see our students learning, engaging, and using their voices to help shape the future of the Indian River Lagoon! 💚🌊

Thank you to the Marine Resources Council for investing in the next generation of environmental leaders!

What an incredible week of hands-on learning!

During Week 5 of Little Growers, Inc.’s Summer Earn & Learn Program, our students worked alongside scientists and educators from Florida Tech (FIT) and Black In Marine Science (BIMS) to explore the Indian River Lagoon and discover why protecting our local ecosystems matters.

Throughout the week, students participated in:

🦪 Oyster Reef Examination at FIT’s Mertens Anchorage
🐟 Lagoon Species Identification & Field Science
🧬 eDNA Collection & Analysis
🔬 Phytoplankton Collection & Analysis
🏡 A special tour of the Marine Resources Council’s Lagoon House with Dr. Laura Wilson

These experiences gave our students the opportunity to use real scientific equipment, collect environmental data, identify native species, and learn directly from professionals working to protect one of Florida’s most important estuaries.

Programs like this inspire curiosity, build confidence, and introduce young people to careers in environmental science, conservation, and marine biology.

A heartfelt thank you to our outstanding partners at Florida Tech, Black In Marine Science (BIMS), and the Marine Resources Council for helping make these unforgettable learning experiences possible.

Together, we’re growing the next generation of environmental leaders.

What a beautiful day of community in action.

Volunteers of all ages came together to plant trees, spread mulch, tend our gardens, and care for this special community space. From thriving raised beds and pollinator gardens to smiling faces and helping hands, every moment was a reminder that real change happens when neighbors show up for one another.

A special thank you to our Summer Earn & Learn students, who continue to work hard all summer to serve their community and protect the Indian River Lagoon. Your leadership and dedication inspire us every day.

To everyone who joined us, supported us, and continues to care for the Jackson Street Food Forest: thank you. It is truly a joy to build community with you.

💚 Our Community. Our Responsibility.
💚 Joy is an Act of Resistance.
