Scarlett sits down with two of the country's sharpest voices on parental rights and education: Corey DeAngelis of The Heritage Foundation, author of the national bestseller "The Parent Revolution," and Brandi Kruse, Emmy Award-winning journalist and host of unDivided in Washington State.
WHAT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT
The DOJ admits it weaponized the Garland memo against parents. The Justice Department's own Weaponization Working Group says the memo "wrongly weaponized the Department of Justice against parents," that White House pressure drove it, and that the FBI opened 25 assessments on parents who showed up at school board meetings. Moms who were called domestic terrorists in 2021 now have it in writing.
Your rights are "nonnegotiable." The Department of Education and DOJ told all 50 state attorneys general that FERPA and PPRA rights are nonnegotiable, that covered mental-health screenings require prior written consent, and they announced federal action against Los Angeles Unified for hiding a child's gender identity from parents.
Teachers' unions caught on audio.
A Los Angeles union leader is heard calling Sonja Shaw "a real threat" and talking about stopping "this MAGA lady" from running public education, and the AFT is calling the new federal school choice tax credit a "poison pill." Corey explains why he says unions "treat failure as a fundraising opportunity."

U.S. reading scores fell 14 points since 2022 in the latest PISA results, and Corey's new Heritage column takes on Nikole Hannah-Jones and the struggling public school she chose for her daughter as a political statement. The fight for girls in Washington State. According to Alliance Defending Freedom's filing, a 15-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by a male opponent at a Washington girls' wrestling tournament, and her family has now taken an emergency request to the U.S. Supreme Court asking that girls be protected and that parents get notice before a daughter is matched against a boy.
Brandi has covered this story from the start, and she explains why Washington's athletic association is still holding its ground after the Supreme Court said states can protect girls' teams. We also get into the Washington ballot measures on girls' sports and parental rights that voters will decide in November, and the December 7 Supreme Court case on a law that lets youth shelters notify the state instead of parents when a runaway child is seeking a gender transition.
The federal school choice tax credit. Up to $1,700 per taxpayer and $3,400 for married couples starting January 1, 2027, with 30 states opted in so far, and Wisconsin not among them because Governor Evers vetoed the opt-in bill. What can parents do right now?
