We need YOUR help!!!!

It's the 45th Anniversary of the Palacios Area Fund of Communities Foundation of Texas! We have helped families with medical bills and scholaships and the community by supporting community events and helping fund needs. Every year we work with the community so all of our folks have a great Christmas.

To celebrate our 45th year, we are planning a cookbook that represents Palacios! We are collecting Vietnamese, Hispanic and American recipes from our neighbors (and short stories, too) to publish this summer. As space allows, recipes will be multilingual.

Neither physical nor mental differences disable a person's interests, abilities or desires to accomplish great things, average things or even "normal" things. If you are a Palacios ISD Senior and are interested in working with people with differing abilities, or have alternative abilities yourself, and your next step is college, the Palacios Area Fund has a competitive scholarship for that! Applications are due March 1, 2026!

In Sweden, a newly developed eco friendly deicing mixture is replacing traditional road salt that often harms birds and wildlife. The innovative formula, made from beetroot extract and cornstarch, melts ice effectively while also being safe for animals to consume, preventing dangerous dehydration caused by high sodium levels.

Environmental groups and scientists see this as a major step forward, combining road safety with wildlife protection. The creators of the project hope it will inspire similar sustainable solutions in cold regions around the world.

Murphy, a bald eagle at the World Bird Sanctuary in Missouri, captured hearts worldwide with his unexpected display of devotion, to a rock. 🦅

Caretakers first noticed him gently arranging the stone in his nest, guarding it as if it were a real egg. For weeks, Murphy built, protected, and even “brooded” over this inanimate object, showing patience, persistence, and the deep parental instincts eagles naturally possess. Scientists note that such behavior isn’t unusual for raptors; in the wild, bald eagles spend hours tending to eggs and chicks, and their dedication can be extraordinary. Murphy’s rock became a symbol of unwavering love, teaching observers that the instinct to nurture can transcend reason.

Then came an extraordinary twist. The sanctuary received an orphaned eaglet, and Murphy’s caretakers introduced him to the chick. He immediately transferred his paternal devotion from stone to living life, feeding, warming, and caring for the young bird with remarkable attentiveness. What began as a lonely vigil over a rock became a real story of love, hope, and second chances in the animal world. 💛
