🗺️ 𝗗𝗵𝗮𝗸𝗮 𝗗𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘂𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲: We’ve just wrapped up an incredible Field Mapping Kickoff and Co-Design Workshop in Dhaka, Bangladesh! 🇧🇩

Last month, the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team's Open Mapping Hub - Asia-Pacific and GroupMappers, together with the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and the Communicable Disease Control (CDC), Directorate General of Health Services worked on 𝗰𝗼-𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆-𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗽𝗶𝗽𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗯𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗲 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗸𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆’𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀. 📊

From the field, our Program Specialist, Bernard Heng, shared:

"As climate change accelerates the risk of Climate-Sensitive Infectious Diseases (CSIDs) like dengue, our public health systems need more bottom-up measures. Across Dhaka, we worked with trained local community mappers to pilot community-led mapping with HOT’s suite of open-source technologies. It was an incredible firsthand experience to see how their lived experience and deep familiarity with their communities can help in mapping the often invisible dengue vulnerabilities." 🤝

A huge thank you to everyone who participated and shared their experiences and insights from the ground. This is a critical milestone for our Wellcome Trust-funded initiative, demonstrating how open geospatial data can fundamentally transform governance and strengthen community resilience against climate-health risks.

𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗚𝘂𝗿𝘂 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗽 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 ✨

It has been exactly a year since State of the Map 2025 was held in Metro Manila, Philippines by the OpenStreetMap Foundation and OpenStreetMap Philippines.

To expand participation and representation at the event, HOT’s Open Mapping Hub - Asia-Pacific launched a scholarship to support 13 in-person and over 50 online scholars with SotM 2025 event access tickets.
