I grew up playing in this park (and have a scar from falling thru the monkey bars!) … and was so disappointed to see the horrible state of this water fountain. The GOOD news is… CPN is replacing it with a combination water fountain /bottle filler! We ordered it and it should arrive to Queens by end of June… and NYC Parks will install it hopefully soon after. This is “Poppenhusen Playground” on 20th ave b/t 123rd and 124th streets, known by old timers as “the Little Park.” There will be a cleanup there this Sunday — consider helping out!! Fountain funded thru our “Greener NYC” grant from City Councilwoman and DYCD.

…and that’s a wrap on our 2026 free public kayaking day! What a great day we had getting 140 people out on the water!! We started this annual tradition about 15 years ago, and it’s definitely one of our favorite events— it’s a joy to connect people from the neighborhood to the water that surrounds them! Huge thanks to our amazing partners from Long Island City Community Boathouse/East River Crew, A Better College Point Civic Association, Partnerships for Parks, NYC Parks, and to NYC Councilwoman Vickie Paladino / DYCD for funding support. And thank you to our friends at the Billion Oyster Project and the NYC Parks’ Marine Debris Removal division for coming out and explaining upcoming College Point projects to the people of the community.

What a great day of community partnership at MacNeil Park! We worked with A Better College Point Civic Association and about 25 volunteers to clean the beach & kayak launch as part of the “Riverkeeper Sweep” & “I Love My Park! Day.” Ours was among hundreds of cleanups yesterday in New York City, the Hudson Valley, and statewide. Way to make a difference, volunteers!!
