Daviess County Library Board Meeting 8/19/2026
1) since January 243 books have now been moved from the childrenās and young adult section. 700 books have been reviewed by library staff to ensure policy compliance.
All incoming new books will also be reviewed to ensure compliance with the collection development policy.
This policy can be accessed on the library website under the āAboutā section and specifies no sexual content, sexual education, graphic violence, or reference of su***de and self harm will be allowed in the Childrenās and Young Adult section.
All books that have been removed in the past 6 months are listed at the bottom of the āRequest for Reconsiderationā policy on the library website under āAboutā
2) Treasurer, Rodney Ellis term has expired. The Library Board received 3 applicants: Paula Roberts, Heather Yeiser, and Matt Casebolt.
Library Chair, Kevin Dorth, very quickly nominated Matt Casebolt as the name to be sent to the Judge Exec to be voted on for approval. His quick and not subtle nomination indicates he must be aligned with their conservative censorship beliefs and ideology. He has been employed at Independence Bank for 2 years. This will possibly be voted on at the next Fiscal Court meeting
3) The Request for Reconsideration policy is being reviewed and revised. All current requests for reconsideration have been completed. 4 were paused for appeals and are now ready to go to the committee for another review. Cost for every appeal is $44 plus about 8 hours of reading time per book for each board member.
Robin Scott was in attendance of this board meeting and has placed many of the Request for Reconsiderations.
NOTE: Library Board Meetings are held the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 5:00 pm on the 2nd floor classroom. Public comments are not allowed.
