Happy Quilt Guild week!!

It’s our 42nd Anniversary! The Guild has been a great asset to our community. I’m grateful for the ladies who initiated the idea, and gathered their friends to meet. At that first meeting they decided the purpose of the Guild is to educate and inform in the field of quilt making, but is not limited to the following specific purposes:
1. To sponsor lectures and workshops for quilters on techniques, design, restoration, and preservation.
2. To support existing sources of information on quilts.
3. To sponsor quilt shows.

And we still uphold that purpose.

Hopefully, you were able to attend our quilt show at Preservation Station. It was a beautiful show. All but 3 of our members help set it up, stayed all day Friday and Saturday, and helped take down. All of us are passionate about quilting, and we care about each other.

We meet Thursday, October 1st at Western Kentucky University-Owensboro at 4821 New Hartford Rd, Owensboro, KY 42303. The meeting starts at 9:30 am, but get there by 9 to get a good seat and visit with our members. We would love to see you and hope we inspire you to join!

Dues for the year are $25, and will be accepted by cash or Check. Make your check payable to OAQG. Cynthia Shanks will be set up to take your money.

Our October Quilt Event is Thursday, October 15 at 9:3O in the same room as our business meeting. We are making Christmas gifts for your family, friends, or yourself. The supply list, sign up sheet, and project examples will be at the business meeting. Workshops are for members only, but, if you would like to take the workshop please pay $25.

Fat Quarter Drawing is Fall. Put your name in the hat for each fat quarter you bring.
Wear your name tag for the name tag drawing.

If you have a Wonky Star quilt you completed from our August Quilt Event, or you have parts and pieces, please bring them.

I will be forever grateful when I discovered that Owensboro had a Quilt Guild when I moved here in 1996. We were driving down Frederica Street and there was a Quilt Show sign hanging in front of Brescia (College back then) University. I couldn’t attend the show because the movers were coming. It took me a couple of months, but I joined in September 1996, and it has been a joy.

All of the members of the OAQG are excited to share our love of quilting with you at our Quilt Show Friday, September 11 from 10am-5pm and Saturday, September 12 from 10am-3pm. Adults are $5 each; children 12 and under are free.
We can’t wait to see you in the gym Preservation Station Market and Event Center!!

Our vendors will be The Village Mercantile and Bluegrass Shear Sharpening . Betty Cummings always sets up a mini version of her quilt shop.
Mr. Waid is excited to sharpen your scissors, pinking shears, and any other type of scissor that isn’t used for grooming or a salon shear.

All of us have gone through our quilting studios to donate to our Guild Sales table. It’s fun to see what you can find.

Be sure to put your tickets in for our raffle quilts. They are $1 each, and we hope to give all three of them away at our show.

We will also have a beautiful display of antique quilts that have been collected by our members.

This show is to share our enjoyment of making quilts to show you, and to give to our family, friends, and to keep for ourselves. We don’t sell quilts unless there are some on our Guild sales table.

I included photos from our last quilt show in 2024 at Preservation Station. It’s such a beautiful place to host a show.

Please be aware that there is a road closing from Yankee Town on Hwy, 66. Use Google Maps to get from Yankee Town, back on 66, and head towards 231 S. to the William Natcher Bridge which will also take you to Owensboro.

Also, the Blue Bridge will be closed on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday due to the Air Show in Downtown Owensboro.

What a great way to start out September than to go to the OAQG Guild meeting. It’s always fun to see all of the friendly faces and to be inspired by their many talents.

We meet at Western KY University Owensboro at 4821 New Hartford Road, Owensboro, KY 42303. The meeting starts at 9:30, but you can get there early to sign in and meet people who have a common interest as you: you love quilts!

As you go into the larger parking lot on the left hand side of the building, you can park, and enter through the door that is on the side. As you enter into the building, turn to the left, and the first room to the left you will see us laughing and having a great time getting everything set up for the meeting. There will be signs to guide you along the way.

For those of you who are not members, you can visit twice before you join. The Quilting Events are for the members only.
Dues are $25 for one year.

Members please remember that we will be having an election of officers. Please read your newsletter to see who was nominated.

When you are at the sign in table be sure your name is on the October 15th Quilting Event. Samantha and Guinn will bring the ideas they have to help you create Christmas gifts for you, your friends, and family.

For those that took the Wonky Star quilt at our August Quilting Event please bring everything you made.

Bring your tips and tricks ideas that make your quilting life easier, and tell us about them.

Remember to wear your name tag for the name tag drawing so you can win a door prize.

Fat Quarter Drawing will be Halloween themed. You can enter your name for each fat quarter you bring.

The best part of the meeting is when you bring your Show and Tell. It can be finished or unfinished. We want to see what you are creating!

It’s an exciting time for our guild with the Stitched in Freedom Quilt Show September 11th and 12th at Preservation next week!! We are excited to see our quilts hanging in their beautiful gym, and being able to share our love of quilting with all of you!

Happy September!

It’s an exciting month for our Guild. We hope to see you at our “Stitched in Freedom” quilt show at Preservation Station next week!

Our business meeting is this Thursday, September 3rd. We will be talking all about the quilt show and more! We would love for you to visit us. We meet at WKU-Owensboro, 4821 New Hartford Road, Owensboro, KY 42303. The meeting starts at 9:30, but you can get there by 9am to meet our members, and find a good seat.

Please come see us at our quilt show,Friday, September 11th from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm and Saturday, September 12 from 10:00am-3:00pm Station, 9661 Ky Hwy. 56, Owensboro, KY 42301. Admission is $5; children 12 and under are free.

Our vendors will be , ($7 each), and our guild’s sales table with lots of pretty fabric and scrap bags priced to sell, along with patterns, books, and magazines.

We will also have 3 beautiful quilts at the registration table for you to be able to purchase tickets and win. Here they are: Bow Tie, a Patriotic quilt, and a Christmas quilt.




Our quilts will be the star of our show including the Antique quilt section, as well as the quilt collection of Guinn Trogden who has been an asset to our guild over the years as President, Second Vice President, Director, Mystery Quilt organizer, teacher, and support to everyone. We feel blessed to be able to celebrate her.

Thank you to Terry Russelburg for organizing and decorating the quilt show. We appreciate your hard work and your dedication to the OAQG. Thank you isn’t enough for all of the effort you have put into this and many quilt shows before. We love and appreciate you🥰.

It’s Guild week!!

These months are flying by fast!

We meet Thursday, August 6 at the Owensboro campus of Western KY University 4821 New Hartford Rd, 42303. The meeting starts at 9:30, but you can get there early to visit and get a good seat.

We will be discussing our “Stitched in Freedom” Quilt Show at Preservation Station at 9661 Hwy. 56, Owensboro, KY 42301 on September 11th from 10am-5pm, and September 12th from 10am-3pm. We are getting excited! The Village Mercantile from Boonville, IN will be there with her quilt shop. John Waid will be there sharpening scissors ($7 a pair). We will have a Guild Sales table with all kinds of goodies from scraps to rulers. We will have an antique quilt display, 3 raffle quilts to take a chance on winning, our gorgeous quilts hanging on poles for easy viewing, and much more.

You may visit twice before you become a member. We would love to see you!

Members, don’t forget:
1. Your quilt show registration forms.
2. Your name tag. You could win a prize!
3. Fat Quarter(s): Homespun or plaid for the fat quarter drawing.
4. Show and Tell (summer is the theme, but you can bring other quilts, too).
5. Do you have a tip to share about quilting? You can share it with us.

It’s Guild Week, and we are excited to announce that we have a new place to meet!! 🎉🎉🎈🎈

We will meet at Western Kentucky University here in Owensboro at 4281 New Hartford Rd, Owensboro, KY 42303. We meet Thursday, July 2, at 9:30.

As you turn left or right from New Hartford Road (also known as 231) turn into the entrance that says “Deer Park Elementary”. WKU-O shares it with Deer Park. The college faces the elementary school. Take a left into the parking lot for the college.

You can get there early to familiarize yourself with our new surroundings. There will be signs, and Board members will be there to help you. The meeting room is on the first floor, so it’s easy access.

Thank you to Kathy Reid and her daughter, Valerie, at Reid’s Orchard for letting us use their beautiful Events building for our May quilting event and for our June meeting. We definitely are better together, and we appreciate the care and concern you have for our guild.

We will be discussing our upcoming quilt show, “Stitched in Freedom” in the gym at Preservation Station on September 11 (10:00am-5pm) and 12th (10:00am-3pm), and our upcoming Wonky Star Quilt Event on August 20. Our Show and Tell is like going to a quilt show.

Wear your name tag for the name tag drawing.
Fat Quarter drawing is Sunflowers.
Show and Tell theme is Patriotic Quilts (you can bring other quilts, too).
Think of a quilt related tip you would love to share.

Happy June!! It’s going to be an exciting summer for our Guild.

It’s Guild week. Reid’s Orchard has graciously offered to host our June meeting in the Event’s Building. Thank you and God bless you, Reid’s Orchard, for supporting us as we find a place to meet.

Reid’s Orchard is located at 4818 KY-144 in Owensboro, KY 42303.

Our meeting will start at 9:30 am, Thursday, June 4th. You can get there by 9 am to meet other quilters and find a good seat.

We will have a business meeting followed by Show snd Tell where the members bring quilts to show what they have been working on the past couple of months. You can join in on our fun for $25.

Please mark your calendars for the “Stitched in Freedom” Quilt Show at the beautiful Preservation Station, 9661 State Rd. 56 , Owensboro, KY 42301 . The dates are Friday, September 11 from 10am-5pm, and Saturday, September 12 from 10am-3pm. Village Mercantile quilt shop from Boonville, IN will be our vendor, and our Guild will have a sales table with books, magazines, fabric, and more.

Good Monday morning to you!

We are still working on finding a place for our business meetings. Until then, our May Quilting Event will be at Reid’s Orchard at their Events building on Thursday, May 21 at 9:30. Get there a little earlier to set up your space. You may need to bring extension cords, too.

*****This is a workshop on how to be scrappy. If you want a patriotic quilt, please bring at least “18” of different blues and scraps of red, and white fabrics. It’s fun to swap fabrics with each other, too! Do Not Cut Any Fabric, please! It will be a fun quilt to make, and you will love the class. If you don’t want patriotic, you can choose many different 18” fabrics for your triangles and strips. *****

Bring a sack lunch and a drink with a screw on lid, your cutting mat, ruler, rotary cutter, and your stash to cut strips and squares. If you want it to be red, white, and blue it would be best to use blues for the triangles and strips of red and white for the other half.

If you have questions, please ask them in the comments, or you can call Guinn Trogden.

Workshops are for members only, however, if you would like to participate it will be $25. Please leave a comment on this post if you would like to come. It’s up to the teacher depending on space and how many people she can teach.
