Last night marked the start of our Dungeons & Dragons Club, and we’re excited to keep the adventure going! ⚔️✨

Join us every Wednesday from 5:00–7:00 PM for weekly D&D sessions at the YMCA.

The YMCA will be closed on Saturday, September 5th and Monday, September 7th in observance of Labor Day. 24/7 members will still be able to use the facility on that day through the 24/7 door.

The Ottumwa Family YMCA is pleased to announce that we will be hosting our very own Dungeons and Dragons Club starting next Wednesday, September 2nd, 2026!

The first two sessions will be free for all participants, and after will be free for YMCA members and $5 per session for non-member participants. The club is open to ages 12 and up and our GM (Game Master, who runs the game) is Andres Vasquez (photo below), and we currently have space at the table for 8 players per week, but spectators are welcome to come and get a feel for the game. Spots are resevered on a first come, first serve basis by weekly registration at the following link or at the front desk

Lastly we have a few notes from Andres regarding our sessions:
- Sessons will begin as one shots (story resolved in a single game session), however, once we have a consistent group, we can begin a campaign (story resolves over many game sessions).
-You do not have to make your own character to start. We have several premade character sheets available if you would prefer to play one of them.
- If you would like to make your character, but are unsure where to start, Andres will be at the YMCA 30 minutes before the session begins to assist with general character creation.
- Players are allowed and encouraged to dress up as your character if they wish, but are not required to do so if they don't want to. We ask all costumes worn meet the YMCA apparel guidelines and are appropriate for a family friendly campaign setting.
- Players don't need to worry about buying/bringing in their own dice. We will have extra dice available for players without dice to borrow during the session.
- If players have one or more food allergies, please inform the GM or Front Desk Staff. The D&D club will not be providing snacks, however, generally players and spectators will be welcome to bring in their own snacks unless we've been informed of an allergy previously.

The Ottumwa Family YMCA's Discovery Lane Early Learning Center is preparing for an exciting new opportunity to expand high-quality preschool education for children in our community — and we're looking for an amazing teacher to help us lead the way!

We are seeking a licensed Preschool Teacher to lead a classroom as part of Iowa's Statewide Voluntary Preschool Program (SWVPP).

Who are we looking for?

🎓 A teacher holding a valid Iowa teaching license with an appropriate preschool endorsement, including:

• PK–K
• PK–3
• Birth–Grade 3 Inclusive Settings

Already an Iowa licensed teacher but don't have the preschool endorsement? We'd still love to talk! There may be opportunities to qualify through Iowa's Class B conditional licensure pathway while completing the necessary endorsement requirements.

At the Y, this position is about much more than teaching a classroom. You'll have the opportunity to help shape a growing preschool program, work alongside a great early childhood team, and make a real difference for kids and families in our community.
