The Wapello County Community Services office is the local access office for South Central Behavioral Health Region.

Mental Health (MH) and Disability Services (DS) are funded by the MH / DS Regions in Iowa. South Central Behavioral Health Region is comprised of Appanoose, Davis, Mahaska, and Wapello Counties. Each county in the state of Iowa has an appointed Coordinator of Disability Services (CDS) or Community Services Director and / or Social Worker. The Director manages and provides oversight, supervision, and monitoring for all regional mental health service needs, including program administration, and planning, approval / denial of all regional mental health expenditures following a determination of service needs. The Director acts as the entry point to accessing regional mental health services for persons with disabilities including mental health disabilities, intellectual disabilities, developmental disabilities, and brain injury. Some Directors also work with the court system when mental health or substance abuse committals occur. A major duty of each Director is collaboration and coordination with clients, stakeholders, the judicial system, the Department of Human Services, schools, Public Health, service providers, AEA, law enforcement, ministerial associations, area businesses, other counties, and communities within the region.
