Over the course of several phone calls and an in-person meeting today at the WLCA office with three Orange County representatives and the public information officer assigned to the project by the contracting firm, Quest, we learned that the scope of this project is significantly larger than originally anticipated.
โฃ
Phase 1 began under emergency conditions involving wastewater pipelines that serve the community. These pipelines are part of the wastewater system serving homes throughout Waterford Lakes, and failures or service disruptions could directly affect nearby households.โฃ
โฃ
Once the pipelines were excavated, the Orange County team uncovered additional deterioration and damage that could not have been identified until the underground infrastructure was exposed. These unforeseen conditions require further repairs. Orange County advised that two, and possibly three, additional phases may be required beyond Phase 1.โฃ
โฃ
With Orange County Public Schools resuming on August 11, the safety of students traveling to and from school, as well as the anticipated traffic impacts throughout the area, have been of utmost importance. WLCA has been in communication with both Orange County Utilities and Orange County Traffic regarding these concerns.โฃ

We have been advised that an Orange County Sheriffโ€™s Office deputy will be stationed at the Spring Island Way crosswalk, with a second deputy stationed at the Discovery Middle School bus entrance. The deputies will be present during both elementary and middle school arrival and dismissal periods.โฃ

Orange County representatives also personally assured WLCA that they will monitor the construction and its impacts frequently to help ensure the communityโ€™s traffic, safety, and access concerns are promptly addressed.โฃ
